Porsche 991 GT3 RS with Akrapovic Exhaust sounds wild – Video

Porsche’s GT division has ensured the 911 GT3 RS is wild enough in factory stock trim, but this doesn’t mean the tuning world is leaving the track-savvy Neunelfer that way. Let’s take Slovenian aftermarket developer Akrapovic, for instance.

They’ve developed a whole range of exhaust systems for the 911 GT3 and GT3 RS, and today we’re here to show you how the most extreme of these perform on US soil.

We’re referring to the Evolution and Evolution Race systems, both of which are made from titanium to save some weight. Remember, this is a 911 we’re talking about, so the weight advantages mean less mass is found aft of the rear axle, which can make the difference when talking about the handling at the limit.

Here are the all-important figures

We’ll start with the Evolution Line, which brings an output premium of 10 hp at 8,000 rpm and 20 lb-ft (27.3 Nm) at 3,853 rpm, while the system lowers the weight by 8.8 lbs (14 kg). This also includes a set of valves so that the driver can control the soundtrack.

 

 

Moving to the Evolution Race Line, we have to explain this is a non-street-legal system that targets the maximum output gains and weight reduction. Translated into figure language, this means a boost of 20 HP and 37 lbs (50.6 Nm) for the naturally aspirated 4-liter flat-six of the GT3 RS. As for the diet, the system saves 49 lbs (22.2 kg).

You can check out the soundtrack of the Evolution Line in the footage below, which takes us through the various valve and throttle opening stages. The tuner explains that, with the valves in the open position, the system sounds just as aggressive as the track-confined version of the exhaust.

You can also have the Evolution Line with optional link pipes and sports catalytic converters, in which case the tuner recommends an ECU remap. As for the no-cats option, this obviously means the system loses its street-legal label.
