A little boy in California is lucky to be alive after a car slammed into his bedroom while he was sleeping.

The driver of the car is still at large, but the family who was sleeping inside – including the small boy – were not hurt, CBS Los Angeles reported.

A red Nissan 350Z crashed through a wall off Imperial Highway and into a home at about 12:15 a.m. Thursday morning, authorities said.

David Mazon said he was asleep in the next room when the crash happened.

“I heard this loud crash,” Mazon said. “I knew exactly what it was because this has happened before, but not to this house.”

Mazon ran into the room of his son and 4-year-old grandson, Armando (AJ), whose leg was pinned under the car. It took 10 minutes for him, his son, wife and a police officer to free the little boy from under the car.

“He was conscious, he was just crying. He was more scared than anything,” Mazon said.

Armando was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, but later released to go home with his mother.

Nine people were displaced in the crash. Mazon said he was told a building inspector was on the way to the scene.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials say deputies are still searching for the driver of the car, who is believed to be hiding in the neighborhood.

Police have not said whether speed or alcohol was a factor in the crash.
