New BMW M2 CS Breaks Nürburgring Record with Shocking Lap Time!

New BMW M2 CS Breaks Nürburgring Record with Shocking Lap Time!

BMW has once again raised the stakes on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. On April 11, 2025, BMW M development engineer Jörg Weidinger pushed the new BMW M2 CS to its limits, clocking a lap time of 7:25.5 minutes on the 20.823-kilometre track. That is not just fast—it is record-breaking for compact cars, shaving eight seconds off the previous best. For BMW M, it is more than a win—it is a bold statement about the brand’s passion for building cars that perform at the edge, whether on the street or the track.

BMW M GmbH’s managing director, Franciscus van Meel, celebrated the moment, emphasizing the M2 CS as a blend of power, precision, and emotion. “This is what happens when engineering, performance, and innovation meet,” he said. The lap time is not just a statistic—it is a symbol of what the compact high-performance segment can be.

This is not the first time Jörg Weidinger has set the bar. Back in April 2023, he lapped the same circuit in the previous M2 model at 7:38.7 minutes. Fast forward two years and he beat his own time by 13 seconds, breaking through the once-untouchable 7:30 barrier. With this 7:25.5 result, the new M2 CS steps into the spotlight and stands proudly alongside its bigger siblings—the M3 CS, M4 CS, and M4 CSL—all of which have dipped under 7:30 on the same track. The M4 CSL remains the fastest production BMW ever, clocking in at 7:18.137 minutes.

Known worldwide as the “Green Hell,” the Nürburgring Nordschleife is one of the most demanding tracks in motorsport. Stretching 20.832 kilometres with over 70 corners, it pushes both machine and driver to the edge. Every lap at full speed is a test of handling, durability, and raw speed. That is why these record runs matter—and why every vehicle used is checked and verified by independent testers to be in full production spec.

BMW M’s legacy at the Nürburgring runs deep. The partnership spans more than 25 years, with the iconic BMW M Power Grandstand, BMW M Bridge, and M Driving Experience all rooted at the circuit. The M Test Centre at the track plays a key role in evaluating every M model long before it hits the market. From early prototypes to near-production vehicles, the Nordschleife is the crucible where every true M car earns its stripes.

BMW M’s motorsport pedigree is just as impressive. With 21 overall victories in the Nürburgring 24-hour race and a refreshed M Power showroom launched in 2021, the relationship between BMW M and the track continues to grow stronger.

Under the hood, the new M2 CS is more than just another M car—it is an evolution. Powered by a 6-cylinder in-line engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology, the car generates 390 kilowatts or 530 horsepower and delivers a robust 650 Newton-metres of torque. It features model-specific engine mounts, adaptive M suspension, and high-performance M compound brakes. An 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic sends power to the rear wheels.

What sets this M2 CS apart is its intelligent lightweight design. By using carbon fibre-reinforced plastic in both exterior and interior components, BMW has shaved approximately 30 kilograms off its weight, enhancing agility and responsiveness. Standard forged M light-alloy wheels seal the deal on its aggressive yet purposeful design.

Produced at BMW’s San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico, the M2 CS will be a limited-run model. It is set to launch in late summer 2025 and will be priced at 115,000 euros in the German market.
