Camaro Concepts At SEMA 2016 (2)

2017 Camaro SS Slammer

Inspired. That’s how Chevrolet designers want Gen 6 Camaro owners and other enthusiasts to feel when they view the all-new 2017 Camaro SS Slammer concept.

It’s a customized vision of the sixth-generation Camaro, with expressive cues, one-off custom features and an asphalt-hugging stance made all the more dramatic by its Dazzling Black exterior.

“The Camaro SS Slammer concept is a design exercise intended to take the Gen 6 Camaro’s proportions to the extreme, pushing boundaries to evoke reactions and inspiring personalization on behalf of other Camaro owners,” said John Cafaro, executive director, Global Chevrolet Design. “From styling accessories to performance parts, the choices from Chevrolet for new Camaro owners are almost endless.”

Camaro Turbo AutoX

The new Camaro Turbo AutoX concept combines the LTG 2.0L turbocharged engine with a performance suspension, brake system, air intake and exhaust system. It melds the Camaro’s excellent power-to-weight ratio with more agile handling that’s ideal for autocross enthusiasts.

“This concept pushes Camaro in a new direction, integrating new performance parts that make the most of the turbocharged Camaro’s lightweight dynamics,” said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports.

COPO Camaro

Chevrolet, of course, also showed this year’s COPO Camaro. Like last year, it features a drag-racing specific chassis that ditches the production Camaro’s independent rear suspension for a live axle. It also still offers supercharged 350 (5.7-liter) and naturally aspirated 427 (7.0-liter) LS-series V8s and a naturally aspirated 376 (6.2-liter) LT-series V8. All of these engines feature the venerable TH400 three-speed automatic transmission. The first of just 69 to be sold this year will go for auction at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction in January, and the proceeds will go to the United Way.
