McLaren MP4-12C High Sport could bring $1.6 Million at Mecum

McLaren MP4-12C High Sport could bring $1.6 Million at Mecum

McLaren vehicles are known for superb performance, craftsmanship and exclusivity. The MP4-12C carried these virtues, as it could sprint to 60 MPH from a standstill in just 3 seconds and reach a top speed well north of 200 MPH. McLaren Special Operations later introduced a car in the spirit of its 12C GT3 racer. Known as the High Sport, it was redesigned front and rear bumpers with side air extractors and louvers on top of the front fenders to increase down force, reduce drag and improve brake cooling. McLaren Chairman and CEO Ron Dennis commissioned this particular MP4-12C High Sport, which is documented in a letter included with the car. High Sport chassis number nine of 10 is the one-and-only painted in F1 Vodafone Racing Team livery and shows only 208 miles on its odometer. Its provenance is further augmented by signatures under hood from the winning McLaren team drivers and crew to celebrate victory at Nuremberg, Germany. Options include the Stealth Package, sport exhaust, carbon ceramic brakes and carbon fiber engine package. The mid-mounted 3.8L twin-turbocharged V-8 engine is linked to a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox, with three driving modes, Normal, Sport or Track. Inside, the car features a Meridian sound system with navigation, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, carbon fiber, Alcantara and leather in F1 team colors. It includes specially designed travel cases and rides on 20-inch lightweight Diamond cut racing wheels. This unique McLaren has several awards that are included in the sale, such as the “Best British Import,” at the Festivals of Speed at Amelia Island, Florida, in 2014; the “Best in Show” at Cars on Fifth in Naples, Florida; and the “Best in Show, People’s Choice” award at the 2015 Festivals of Speed in St Petersburg, Florida.
