2024 Volkswagen Golf 8 R Facelift Testing and Exhaust Sound

2024 Volkswagen Golf 8 R Facelift Testing and Exhaust Sound

The 2024 Volkswagen Golf 8 R Facelift is shaping up to be an exciting update for this iconic model. Spotted testing at the Nürburgring, the facelifted Golf R and its Variant version are set to receive significant enhancements, both aesthetically and technologically. However, changes to the interior remain a bit of a mystery, as they were not visible during the testing. Under the hood, the 2024 Golf R is expected to maintain its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine but with a slight power boost. Currently, it delivers 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, and there’s speculation of an increase, possibly around 20 hp, aligning with the anticipated upgrades for the GTI model. The future of the six-speed manual transmission is uncertain, mainly due to stringent Euro 7 standards, although there’s still a chance it might be retained. Visually, the Golf R will feature minor styling updates to keep it looking fresh. Expect slimmer headlights, a slightly thinner trim strip across the bonnet, and possibly a new wing, resembling that of the limited edition Golf R333. The rear is likely to see tweaked tail lights and the option of an Akrapovic exhaust system might remain available post-facelift. In terms of technology, the facelift is likely to include a new, larger infotainment system, possibly a 15-inch unit like that in the latest Tiguan. This upgrade comes in response to feedback about the current infotainment system’s performance and usability. There are also expectations of improved cabin comfort, with new multifunctional buttons addressing previous criticisms about control switches and buttons. The Golf R remains a premium offering in its segment, noted for its practicality and cargo capacity. The 2024 model is expected to continue this trend, offering a spacious cargo area and comfortable front seats with convenient storage options for rear passengers. The 2024 Volkswagen Golf R Facelift is expected to hit the US market in 2025, following its introduction in 2024. This model precedes the anticipated release of the 9th-generation Golf around 2028, which may see a shift towards electrification. These updates represent Volkswagen’s commitment to keeping the Golf R competitive in the hot hatch segment, balancing performance enhancements with practical and technological improvements.
