Xiaomi YU7 Revealed: Is This the Electric SUV Tesla Should Fear?

Xiaomi is pushing deeper into the electric vehicle market, and this time it is doing it with a compact electric crossover that is stirring up major buzz. The Xiaomi YU7 is here, and it is being positioned as a serious competitor to the Tesla Model Y. While the company has not revealed official pricing or opened pre-orders just yet, it has confirmed that customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in July.

After the incredible success of the SU7 sedan, which outsold the Tesla Model 3 in China, Xiaomi is doubling down on what worked. The YU7 continues that momentum with a strategy aimed at delivering more value than its rivals. The goal? Offer the space and performance of a Tesla Model X but at a price point below the Model Y.

Xiaomi has been very clear that this is not just a lifted SU7. The YU7 is built from the ground up with unique proportions. Its stance includes a 3 to 1 wheel-to-body ratio, 2.1 to 1 wheel-to-height ratio, and 1.25 to 1 width-to-height ratio. These are not just marketing figures—they translate into a design that is sleek, athletic, and tuned for performance.

One of the most visually impressive features is its massive aluminum hood, which measures 3.11 square meters. Under that hood is a 141-liter front trunk, paired with a 678-liter main cargo space. Fold the rear seats down, and that capacity grows to a generous 1,758 liters. To complement the clean styling, the YU7 debuts a new flush-door handle system that remains hidden until the driver approaches, enhancing both looks and aerodynamics.

Aerodynamics have been taken seriously here. The YU7 includes 10 through-flow channels and 19 optimized vents to manage airflow efficiently. These innovations help the crossover achieve a drag coefficient of 0.245, which is excellent for its class and contributes to longer range.

The YU7 comes in three launch colors: Emerald Green, Titanium Silver, and Lava Orange. Emerald Green uses a special dual-layer process for reflective depth. Titanium Silver includes coarse aluminum flakes for a brighter appearance, while Lava Orange brings bold energy, carried over from the SU7.

Step inside, and you will find one of the most futuristic interiors on the market. The YU7 introduces the Xiaomi HyperVision Panoramic Display, a triple Mini-LED curved screen setup that projects information across a 1.1-meter display with a retina-grade resolution of 108 pixels per degree and 1,200-nit peak brightness. It is fully customizable, letting the driver and passenger personalize layouts for navigation, media, weather, and more.

Under the bodywork, Xiaomi uses its most powerful motor to date—the HyperEngine V6s Plus. With a dual-motor setup, the YU7 pushes out 690 horsepower, delivering 0 to 62 miles per hour in 3.23 seconds and reaching a top speed of 253 kilometers per hour.

The YU7 will come in Standard, Pro, and Max trims. The Standard offers a 96.3-kilowatt-hour battery with a CLTC range of 835 kilometers. Pro and Max add all-wheel drive and slightly larger batteries, with ranges of 760 kilometers and 770 kilometers respectively. That makes the YU7 the longest-range electric SUV in its category under a 100-kilowatt-hour battery.

All versions support 800-volt architecture and a charging rate of up to 5.2C, allowing a 10 to 80 percent charge in just 12 minutes, or up to 620 kilometers of range in only 15 minutes.

If Xiaomi’s approach with the SU7 is any indication, the YU7 is set to shake up the electric SUV landscape just as much—if not more.
