Why Everyone Is Talking About the New BYD Seal 06 EV
The BYD Seal 06 EV has officially launched in China, offering drivers an affordable electric sedan with sleek styling and a range of modern features. Starting at 109,800 Chinese yuan, or approximately 15,270 United States dollars, it gives consumers a full-electric option alongside the successful Seal 06 DM-i plug-in hybrid, which has already sold over 251,000 units since its debut in May 2024. Now, the battery-powered version hopes to carry that momentum forward with a cleaner, quieter driving experience.
Riding on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 Evo, the Seal 06 EV shares the same underpinnings as many of the company’s latest electric vehicles. Its exterior design includes a closed front end with no grille, slim headlights, and a trapezoidal lower intake. Smooth door handles, a coupe-like roofline, and a continuous rear light bar complete the elegant yet futuristic appearance.
In terms of size, the Seal 06 EV measures 4,720 millimeters long, 1,880 millimeters wide, and 1,495 millimeters tall, with a wheelbase of 2,820 millimeters. It is 110 millimeters shorter and 5 millimeters wider than its plug-in sibling, while the stretched wheelbase offers improved legroom and ride comfort.
Inside the cabin, drivers will find a rotating 15.6-inch touchscreen, a compact digital instrument display, and BYD’s DiPlink 100 infotainment system. The gear selector is positioned behind a three-spoke steering wheel branded with the BYD name. There are dual wireless phone charging pads, convenient cup holders, and a total of 24 storage compartments throughout the interior. The front trunk holds 65 liters, while the rear cargo area provides 423 liters of space.
For safety and convenience, the Seal 06 EV is equipped with BYD’s DiPilot 100 system, also known as God’s Eye C. It includes navigation-assisted highway driving, emergency braking from speeds up to 80 kilometers per hour, and side-collision warnings. Autonomous parking features are also built in.
The base model comes with a 110 kilowatt rear-mounted electric motor producing 148 horsepower, paired with a lithium iron phosphate battery rated at 46.08 kilowatt-hours. This version offers up to 470 kilometers of driving range under the CLTC test cycle. The upgraded version delivers 160 kilowatts or 215 horsepower, using a 56.6 kilowatt-hour battery pack and increasing the driving range to 545 kilometers. Top speed is limited to 160 kilometers per hour, and rapid charging allows the battery to go from 30 percent to 80 percent in just 24 minutes.
Underneath, the front axle uses a MacPherson strut suspension while the rear benefits from a five-link independent setup. The vehicle body uses 74 percent high-strength steel, and nine airbags are included to help protect occupants.
With a price range between 109,800 and 129,800 Chinese yuan (15,270 to 18,050 United States dollars), the BYD Seal 06 EV is available in three trim levels. It offers excellent value against the hybrid DM-i version, which starts at 99,800 yuan and goes up to 139,800 yuan. For anyone considering an entry-level electric sedan in China, this model hits the sweet spot between design, safety, and performance.
