Toyota bZ7 Electric Flagship Sedan – Bigger Than a Camry?
Toyota is stepping up its electric vehicle presence in China with the unveiling of the all-new bZ7, a sleek, full-sized electric sedan that pushes beyond the boundaries set by its previous bZ series models. Despite earlier rumors suggesting Toyota would abandon the bZ nameplate, the company continues to expand the lineup, especially in the Chinese market. This new model joins an expanding range that already includes the bZ4X, bZ3, bZ3X, and bZ5.
Built in collaboration with Chinese automaker GAC, the bZ7 measures more than 5,000 millimeters in length, putting it in the same size category as luxury sedans and making it significantly larger than the Camry. This makes the bZ7 longer than Nissan’s N7 sedan, which also caters specifically to the Chinese electric vehicle segment. Where Nissan turned to Dongfeng, Toyota leaned on GAC to bring this model to life.
From the outside, the bZ7 blends visual cues from existing models like the Prius and the Crown, but it confidently holds its own with design touches like split headlights and a roof-mounted sensor. While it borrows some inspiration from the smaller bZ3, this is not just an upsized clone. The bZ7 presents itself as a proper flagship with more refined materials and upscale detailing.
The interior introduces a premium experience with features like white perforated leather seating, wood trim, and ambient lighting integrated into the dash and doors. A large central infotainment display is joined by essential physical buttons for ease of use. A digital instrument cluster with a trapezoidal design and Huawei-branded wireless charging pad point to tech partnerships and attention to user experience. The two-tone steering wheel gives off a Volvo-like design, and there is a noticeable cutout in the dash, hinting at the presence of a head-up display.
Toyota has not released pricing just yet, but expectations are that the bZ7 will be positioned well above the bZ3, which starts at around $23,200 in China. Sales of the bZ7 are expected to begin within the next 12 months, further expanding Toyota’s electric vehicle lineup in one of the world’s most competitive EV markets.
