New GMC Hummer EV Crushes the Ford F-150 Lightning in Speed Test

New GMC Hummer EV Crushes the Ford F-150 Lightning in Speed Test

The latest version of the GMC Hummer Electric Vehicle is not just big—it is downright outrageous. Already known for being massive and quick, the 2026 model takes things up another level. Imagine something weighing 9,000 pounds flying down a road like a sports car—that is exactly what is happening here. This beast can go from a complete stop to 60 miles per hour in just 2.8 seconds. That is actually 0.2 seconds faster than the older version, which was already no slouch.

GMC included a hilariously named “Watts to Freedom” launch control system—yes, that is the actual name. Once activated, the vehicle lowers its stance, shakes a little to build suspense, and prompts the driver to press the brake while preparing to unleash the full power. Release the brake, mash the accelerator, and this electric giant takes off like a rocket. It is quicker than the Ford F-150 Lightning and is only slightly behind Tesla’s Cybertruck Cyberbeast, which claims a 2.6-second time.

Under the skin, the Hummer Electric Vehicle packs serious power with two motors in the back and one in the front, combining for a staggering 1,160 horsepower and 12,000 pound-feet of torque. These numbers put it at the top of the electric truck world according to General Motors. It is powered by a 24-module battery with a capacity of 205 kilowatt-hours, weighing around 3,000 pounds by itself. In the 2025 model, that gave it a range of 314 miles. GMC has not yet released updated range numbers for the new model.

For those who love to go off-road, the 2026 Hummer gets a new feature called King Crab mode. This allows the rear wheels to turn more sharply than the front ones, helping it crawl over rocks or get out of tight spots with ease. Older Hummer Electric Vehicle owners will not be left out, though—they will get this feature through a software update. Activating it is simple: just press the “Mystery Mode” button on the dial.

The upgrades do not stop there. The 2026 Hummer also offers bi-directional charging, which means you can charge your house or another electric vehicle straight from the truck. Other updates include three new paint colors, three new interior color options, a redesigned off-road wheel setup, a sharper infotainment display, and an improved Super Cruise system with hands-free lane changing.

Initial production will begin at General Motors’ Factory Zero and kick off with the limited-run Carbon Fiber Edition, available in both pickup and SUV styles, based on the premium 3X trim. Pricing details are still under wraps, but given all that is packed into this electric monster, do not expect it to be cheap.
