New BYD Seal 06 Wagon: Game-Changer for Plug-In Hybrid Road Trips?

The BYD Seal 06 DM-i Travel Edition brings something refreshingly practical and stylish to the plug-in hybrid scene. This wagon is more than just a stretched version of the sedan—it is purpose-built for families and road trip lovers who want range, space, and technology at an affordable price.

Starting at 109,800 Chinese Yuan and topping out at 129,800 Chinese Yuan, it is one of the most attractively priced long-range plug-in hybrid wagons on the market. Dimensionally, it is a bit longer and taller than the sedan, measuring 4,850 millimeters in length, 1,890 millimeters wide, and 1,505 millimeters tall, with a wheelbase of 2,790 millimeters.

Design-wise, the Seal 06 Travel keeps the Ocean Aesthetics theme with clean lines, a flush front end, full-width taillights, and hidden door handles. But the real magic is at the back—thanks to its wagon body, you get a massive 670-liter trunk that can be expanded to 1,535 liters by folding the rear seats flat. There is also a built-in fridge and a power outlet for external devices, making it a solid option for weekend getaways or even a bit of car camping.

Powering the Seal 06 Travel Edition is BYD’s fifth-generation DM-i plug-in hybrid system. The base model features a 1.5-liter gasoline engine paired with a 120-kilowatt motor, offering an 80-kilometer electric-only range. If you step up to the top variant, you get a more powerful 160-kilowatt motor, a 150-kilometer EV range, and acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in around 7.7 seconds. Fully charged and fueled, the system can take you up to 2,000 kilometers.

The interior offers either a 12.8-inch or 15.6-inch rotating central touchscreen, paired with an 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster. DiPilot 100 driver assistance features, adaptive dampers, heated and ventilated seats, and even a panoramic sunroof round out the experience.
