Geely Galaxy Cruiser: Off-Road Beast That Floats on Water?
Geely is stepping into the spotlight with the reveal of its boldest off-road concept yet—the Galaxy Cruiser. Unveiled in prototype form at the Shanghai motor show, this large sport utility vehicle is gunning for established names like the Toyota Prado and Ford Everest, and it just might have the tech to back it up.
Although production has not been confirmed and there is no official word yet on Australian release, Geely’s plans for global expansion are clear. The brand’s Australian presence is still fresh, having only recently launched the EX5 electric mid-size sport utility vehicle. But Geely has ambitious plans to introduce six new electrified models to Australia within the next three years, and the Galaxy Cruiser could be a showstopper among them.
Designed for both urban roads and rugged terrain, the Galaxy Cruiser is a tech-heavy, adventure-ready machine. What sets it apart is its AI-driven four-wheel-drive system that can shift between front-, rear-, and all-wheel drive. It also supports all-electric, hybrid, and extended-range driving modes without user input.
Geely claims this SUV can crab walk, turn on the spot, keep going with a flat tyre, and even drift autonomously. It features a full digital chassis powered by artificial intelligence and an advanced sonar and radar system that allows it to float on water for up to two hours at speeds over 8.5 kilometers per hour, with a wading depth of more than 800 millimeters.
The Galaxy Cruiser runs on Geely’s new Golden Short Blade Battery, built in-house with bulletproof safety coatings to prevent fires and structural failures. Geely also promises satellite connectivity that remains stable even in the most remote areas, plus a suite of safety technologies developed by the world’s largest independent safety lab.
With safety features aimed at preventing control loss, fire, connectivity issues, collisions, and even sinking, the Galaxy Cruiser is more than just a rugged ride—it is a high-tech fortress. Whether it becomes a global hit remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—this is not your average SUV.
