First Look: Audi E5 Sportback at Shanghai 2025 – Insane Performance Details

Audi’s presence at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show turned plenty of heads with the all-new E5 Sportback. This sleek and technology-packed model is the very first offering from Audi’s new China-exclusive sub-brand simply called AUDI. Designed through a partnership with SAIC, the E5 Sportback directly targets the younger, tech-focused crowd in China, blending bold style with advanced innovation.

Built on the new Advanced Digitised Platform, the E5 Sportback shows off a futuristic zonal electronic architecture that keeps the car ready for over-the-air updates and highly connected driving experiences. Under the hood, or rather under the floor, buyers will find a choice of four different power outputs, ranging from 295 horsepower up to a stunning 776 horsepower. If raw speed is your thing, the top version can rocket from zero to sixty-two miles per hour in just 3.4 seconds.

A 100 kilowatt-hour battery paired with an 800-volt system gives the E5 Sportback up to 478 miles of range on the Chinese CLTC cycle. Charging times are equally impressive, allowing approximately 230 miles of range to be added in only 10 minutes at a fast-charging station.

Inside, Audi pushes technology to new heights with a stunning 27-inch 4K pillar-to-pillar display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip. The dashboard’s futuristic look is complemented by digital side mirror displays and a customizable infotainment system. Audi’s new 360 Assisted Driving package uses 29 perception sensors, including roof-mounted LiDAR, to deliver high-end driver assistance features.

Measuring 4,881 millimeters long, 1,959 millimeters wide, and 1,478 millimeters tall with a wheelbase of 2,950 millimeters, the E5 Sportback offers a spacious and comfortable cabin. Audi opted for a luxurious but minimalistic approach inside, featuring premium wood trim, hidden air vents, ambient lighting, and even a fragrance diffuser with three signature scents.

Visually, the E5 Sportback breaks away from tradition. Instead of Audi’s familiar four-ring badge, the new AUDI wordmark proudly stretches across the front and rear. A striking circle-shaped LED array at the front gives it an unmistakable nighttime signature.

Audi plans to launch the E5 Sportback in China by late summer 2025, followed by at least two more new electric models under the AUDI brand by 2026 and 2027. This move marks a huge shift for Audi as it adapts to China’s fast-evolving premium electric car market.
