Electric Quad That Leans? France’s New City Vehicle Will Surprise You
ÆMotion, a French startup, is shaking things up in urban mobility with a very different kind of electric vehicle. It looks part motorcycle, part car, and it leans into corners like a bike while offering the stability of four wheels. This creation is not trying to replace motorcycles but instead offers a new option for city dwellers who want agility, protection, and cleaner transportation all in one.
This sleek, fully electric vehicle is narrow enough to weave through congested traffic but comes with a fully enclosed cabin. That means no rain-soaked jackets and an extra layer of safety in the event of a crash. The leaning chassis design allows for up to 35 degrees of tilt in both directions, giving the driver a feeling closer to a motorcycle than a car.
Power is provided by two battery options. The base version features removable batteries and a claimed range of 43 miles. The upgraded version comes with a fixed battery that increases range to a claimed 125 miles. Both setups allow the vehicle to reach speeds just over 70 miles per hour, making it suitable not only for city streets but also for short stints on highways and main roads.
Inside the cabin, you get more than just a steering wheel and pedals. There are proper car-like seats with four-point harnesses to keep you secure, especially while cornering or in the rare event of a tip-over. Despite being a quadricycle, in France you will be able to drive it with just a standard car licence, provided you complete a seven-hour training course.
As for ownership, ÆMotion is aiming for a modern twist. Instead of a traditional sales model, the company is looking into a leasing strategy with a reported monthly cost of €200. That translates to around £170. While availability outside of France has not been confirmed, the first units are expected to hit French streets later this year.
This kind of machine could find its niche with commuters looking for something practical, fun, and just a little different. If you enjoy the idea of carving through traffic without giving up a roof over your head, ÆMotion’s vehicle might be the perfect fit.
