Corvette recall 25V536: why the fan can move fuel and what GM will fix
General Motors has paused deliveries and issued a safety recall for the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and the twin-turbocharged Corvette ZR1 from model years 2023 through 2026. The company’s engineers traced a risk that excess gasoline spilled into the fuel-filler pocket can travel toward an ignition source. How could that happen? Airflow from the left-side radiator fan can move spilled fuel toward hot hardware such as the brake caliper or the exhaust manifold, and that fan may run even when the car is switched off. The coming Corvette ZR1X uses a similar left-side radiator and fan layout, but it has not yet entered series production.
The stop-sale means dealers cannot deliver Z06 or ZR1 units until the remedy is ready. In the meantime, owners are being reminded to fuel the car exactly as the owner’s manual instructs. Make sure the nozzle is fully inserted into the filler neck before starting the pump. Do not top off after the first automatic shut-off click. And always switch off the 5.5-liter double overhead camshaft eight-cylinder engine during refueling.
General Motors plans a straightforward fix: a shield that diverts any spilled fuel away from hot components. Parts are not yet at dealers, so patience will be required. Looking at production totals for 2023 through 2026, the affected population could exceed 25,000 vehicles, though the final count will be confirmed in the official filings. Dealers were notified on August 21, 2025, and customer letters will follow in the weeks ahead. The internal campaign number is N252514930, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration lists it as 25V536. At the time of writing, the federal documentation has not yet appeared on the agency’s website.
If you own one of these cars, keep driving common-sense simple. Follow the fueling steps above, avoid topping off, and if you ever smell fuel around the left rear quarter after a fill-up, schedule a diagnostic visit. Your dealer will install the shield once parts arrive and will confirm the repair at no charge.
