500 Upgrades? NIO ET5 and ET5T Just Changed the Game in 2025!

500 Upgrades? NIO ET5 and ET5T Just Changed the Game in 2025!

NIO has officially revealed the new ET5 and ET5 Touring (ET5T), elevating the premium electric vehicle experience with over 500 upgrades. Launched at the Hefei Luogang Central Park, these models reflect two years of development and refinement. Starting at 298,000 Renminbi, or 228,000 Renminbi with the Battery as a Service subscription, the new ET5 and ET5T are a bold step forward in NIO’s electric sedan and tourer lineup.

The original ET5 began deliveries in September 2022 and quickly redefined what a premium electric sedan should be in the 300,000 Renminbi category. The ET5T followed in June 2023, and thanks to its stylish design and smart features, it quickly earned a spot among the top three premium electric tourers worldwide. Now, the latest versions of both models bring extensive improvements across design, comfort, performance, and intelligence.

From the outside, the new ET5 looks more athletic than ever. The raised hood, sharp feature lines, and Shark Nose front end give it a commanding presence. The ET5T echoes the same design language, with smooth, pure lines designed to evoke freedom and exploration. The new glossy black trim around the lower body, a more pronounced front splitter, and the blade-style diffuser give both models a sportier character. The new 20-inch Five-Spoke Blade Wheels complete the dynamic look.

Buyers can choose from nine body colors inspired by the sky, including two brand-new ones—Twilight Glow and New Moon Silver. Inside, the cabin is offered in five earth-toned themes, with new options like Stellar Violet, Warm Gravel, and Storm Gray. With up to 45 color combinations, personalization is taken to a new level.

The technology inside both models is equally impressive. The centerpiece is a 15.6-inch AMOLED center display with ultra-slim bezels and a 3K resolution that supports High Dynamic Range Vivid visuals. It is joined by an 18.8-inch Head-Up Display that comes standard, showing blind spot views and navigation cues clearly even in bright sunlight.

Drivers can also opt for the 8-megapixel digital rearview mirror, which gives a view 3.6 times wider than a traditional mirror. The redesigned steering wheel and column shifter free up space in the center console, which now features dual 50-watt wireless chargers to power up two phones at once.

Audio lovers will appreciate the Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 surround sound system, now upgraded for a deeper, richer experience with Pro EQ tuning. Interior ambient lighting can now “dance” to your music using over 16 million colors, making the cabin feel more alive.

Both models now support digital key features including iPhone compatibility, Ultra-Wideband precision positioning, and Near Field Communication access, making entry and start-up more seamless than ever.

When it comes to comfort, the ET5 and ET5T offer what may be the softest seats in their segment. The seats feature an 11-layer structure with high-resilience and proprietary NIO AIR foam layers. Add to that the two-piece cushion design, adjustable lumbar air support, and optimized headrests, and you have a seating experience designed for long-haul serenity.

The rear seat comfort has also been significantly improved. Extended cushions add 75 millimeters of extra support, and the new foam in the headrests with a six-degree tilt brings a better resting angle. Massage, heating, and ventilation are better than ever, almost doubling the overall experience compared to the previous model.

Thermal management has also received a massive upgrade. The windshield now uses double-layer silver-coated glass that blocks 99.9 percent of ultraviolet rays and more than 90 percent of infrared. A similar setup is found on the panoramic roof, and side windows are now double-glazed with the same infrared blocking technology. The result is better insulation and greater comfort in extreme weather.

Driving refinement has taken a huge leap thanks to the standard Continuous Damping Control and 4D Smart Suspension. These systems adjust up to 500 times per second, smoothing out bumpy roads, speed bumps, and body roll. Upgraded hydraulic bushings, suspension arms, and recalibrated software all add up to an experience that feels composed and confident.

NIO also introduced EP Mode, a performance feature allowing 11-level individual damping adjustment for both axles. Whether you are in Daily mode, heading to the Track, testing out Launch control, practicing Drifts, or running Team Play scenarios, the car will respond accordingly—thanks to artificial intelligence and real-time suspension tuning.

At the heart of it all is NIO’s third-generation smart system, NT.Cedar S. This system includes the NX9031 proprietary driving chip and SkyOS, an operating system that runs the entire vehicle. Paired with AQUILA Super Sensing, the ET5 and ET5T now offer an industry-leading 1,550-nanometer LiDAR and 4D imaging radar setup for full weather and terrain awareness.

With Navigate on Pilot Plus and the NIO World Model platform, the car can handle everything from highway driving to navigating through toll booths, pulling into charging stations, and even parking itself. Coming soon are features like Parking Lot Routing, Long-Range Self-Parking, and remote-controlled Drag-and-Park.

The updated NOMI Mate 3.0 adds personality to the cabin. This dashboard-mounted digital assistant has a 340-degree range of motion and can react to user taps, play games like rock-paper-scissors, and even guide you through stretches. NOMI Power Assistant can also analyze 21 different factors to suggest the best charging stop along your route.

When it comes to safety, the ET5 is a proven performer. In 2023, it was the first model to meet the new and strict Euro NCAP criteria, scoring an impressive 96 percent in occupant protection. Now, the ET5T builds on that with features like Rear Collision Mitigation, which reduces forward jolts by up to 93 percent in a rear-end crash, and Emergency Roadside Pull-Over, which takes over in critical moments to safely bring the car to a stop.

With enhanced vision systems, Smart Matrix lighting that adjusts for oncoming traffic, and real-time tire blowout detection that responds in 0.3 seconds, the ET5T is equipped to protect its occupants under virtually any condition.

Deliveries begin next week in China, along with an exclusive launch offer valued at 61,300 Renminbi. This includes five years of free power swaps, a free comfort upgrade, and extended warranties on both the vehicle and powertrain. Existing NIO owners also get loyalty rewards when upgrading.

This launch signals a major step forward in NIO’s product offensive. From the high-end ET9 to the new ES6 and EC6, and now the all-new ET5 and ET5T, NIO is proving that its decade of technology development is paying off.
