2026 Volvo EX60 Introduces a World-First Safety Belt

2026 Volvo EX60 Introduces a World-First Safety Belt

Volvo Cars is setting a new standard in automotive safety with its upcoming multi-adaptive safety belt, set to premiere in the fully electric Volvo EX60 in 2026. What makes this technology groundbreaking is its ability to personalize protection using real-time data, ensuring each person in the vehicle is better protected, regardless of their size or seating position.

This is not just an update to the traditional seat belt. Volvo’s latest design can analyze data from both interior and exterior sensors to assess a wide range of factors—like body shape, height, and even the type of collision. That means a person in a minor accident receives a softer belt response, while someone in a more severe crash gets a firmer belt load to prevent head trauma.

The safety belt now offers 11 load-limiting profiles, far beyond the usual 3. This advancement helps the system fine-tune how much pressure the belt applies depending on the crash dynamics and the person’s build. Best of all, it evolves over time, thanks to over-the-air updates, meaning it can become smarter and more effective the longer you own the car.

Volvo’s decades of real-world accident data—over 80,000 individual cases—have made this innovation possible. The new safety belt also works hand-in-hand with airbags and other assistance systems to provide a complete protection experience.

All of this has been tested and perfected at Volvo’s Safety Centre crash lab, which has now been in operation for 25 years. That experience shows.
