2025 Mercedes CLA L Revealed With More Space Than a C-Class!

2025 Mercedes CLA L Revealed With More Space Than a C-Class!

Mercedes-Benz has taken a bold step by introducing a long wheelbase version of the third-generation CLA, tailored specifically for the Chinese market. Unveiled at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, this extended variant is not just about stretching the body—it is all about providing a premium experience for rear-seat passengers.

The CLA L measures 4,763 millimeters in length, making it slightly longer than the current C-Class. More significantly, its wheelbase stretches to 2,865 millimeters, an increase of 75 millimeters compared to the standard model. That translates to more legroom and an overall more spacious feel in the cabin. Even the rear seats have been redesigned with longer cushions and softer bolsters, placing comfort at the forefront.

Inside, Mercedes has taken technology to the next level. The dashboard features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, along with two separate 14-inch screens—one for infotainment and one dedicated to the front passenger. The operating system in this model also differs slightly from other Mercedes vehicles, fine-tuned to better suit the needs of Chinese customers.

Powering the electric variant of the CLA L is a rear-mounted motor producing 268 brake horsepower, which equates to 272 metric horsepower or 200 kilowatts. It utilizes a two-speed transmission and is built on the 800-volt MMA (Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture) platform. Buyers can choose between two battery sizes: a 58 kilowatt-hour unit and a larger 85 kilowatt-hour pack.

With that setup, Mercedes claims a maximum range of 538 miles on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle, while the WLTP rating for Europe is 493 miles. Efficiency comes in at 10.9 kilowatt-hours per 62 miles. The 800-volt system also supports ultra-fast charging, making long trips more practical.

Interestingly, there is no front trunk, also known as a frunk, in the electric model. That is because Mercedes plans to introduce a gasoline-powered version of this model with 48-volt mild hybrid support. So, if electric is not your thing, a traditional internal combustion version is coming.
