2025 Geely Starshine 8 Revealed: 1600 KM Range

2025 Geely Starshine 8 Revealed: 1600 KM Range

Geely has officially introduced its latest addition to the Galaxy lineup—the Starshine 8 plug-in hybrid sedan. Unveiled on May 9, this stylish fastback sedan is offered in seven different trim levels and sits within an attractive price bracket ranging from 125,800 to 165,800 Chinese yuan, or approximately 17,400 to 22,900 United States dollars. It boasts two impressive total driving ranges: 1,500 kilometers and 1,600 kilometers, depending on the selected configuration.

The Starshine 8 stretches 5,018 millimeters long, 1,918 millimeters wide, and 1,480 millimeters tall. It rides on a 2,928 millimeter wheelbase and achieves a slippery drag coefficient of just 0.25. Curb weight varies by trim—1,908 kilograms, 1,860 kilograms, or 1,760 kilograms. Beneath the sleek bodywork lies either Geely’s Thor EM-P or Thor EM-i plug-in hybrid technology.

The EM-P models come powered by a 1.5 liter turbocharged engine delivering 120 kilowatts or 161 horsepower and 255 Newton-meters of torque, paired with Geely’s DHT Evo hybrid transmission. This is complemented by a 160 kilowatt or 215 horsepower front electric motor that produces 350 Newton-meters of torque. The 18.4 kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate battery offers a pure electric range of 130 kilometers and contributes to a combined fuel consumption of 3.67 liters per 100 kilometers. Acceleration from zero to 100 kilometers per hour takes just 6.49 seconds.

Meanwhile, the EM-i versions feature a 1.5 liter engine producing 82 kilowatts or 110 horsepower and 136 Newton-meters of torque, coupled with the E-DHT system. The electric motor generates 175 kilowatts or 211 horsepower and 262 Newton-meters of torque. These trims offer either an 8.5 kilowatt-hour or 18.4 kilowatt-hour battery, good for electric ranges of 60 or 130 kilometers, and a more fuel-efficient 3.43 liters per 100 kilometers consumption. Acceleration is slower, with the base model reaching 100 kilometers per hour in 8.4 seconds, while higher trims manage it in 7.9 seconds.

Five trims come equipped with Geely’s G-Pilot advanced driving assistance system, which includes a 126-line roof-mounted lidar unit, five millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 10 cameras. This setup allows for smart parking in more than 300 different scenarios, evasive maneuvers at speeds up to 120 kilometers per hour, and emergency braking at speeds up to 90 kilometers per hour. The two remaining trims use a simpler suite consisting of two radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and five cameras.

Inside, the Starshine 8 delivers a tech-focused experience. A T-shaped dashboard layout integrates a 10.2-inch instrument display and a large 15.4-inch central screen powered by the Flyme Auto operating system. This runs on Geely’s in-house Dragon Eagle-1 7-nanometer chip and includes integration with the DeepSeek artificial intelligence model. Selected trims are also fitted with a 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display.

Additional features include a voice-activated assistant, over-the-air software updates, 50-watt wireless phone charging, ambient lighting with 256 color options, a 23-speaker premium audio system, and a 405-liter trunk that can store five 20-inch suitcases. The cabin offers 30 storage compartments and available seat heating, ventilation, and massage functions.

Since its first production car launched in April 2023, the Geely Galaxy brand has already sold more than 930,000 units. From January to April 2025 alone, over 356,000 vehicles have been delivered—showing just how quickly the brand is gaining traction in the market.
