Even after five years on the market, the Subaru BRZ continues to capture driving enthusiasts’ hearts, and the new BRZ STI Sport Type RA proves why. This limited-edition coupe may not be a full-fledged Subaru Tecnica International (STI) model, but it embodies the spirit of precision engineering and motorsport heritage in every detail.

Beneath its sleek hood is the familiar 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine, yet this is no ordinary setup. Subaru has reworked the “FA24” engine, adapting it from the BRZ CNF race car used in Japan’s Super Taikyu endurance series between 2022 and 2024. The result is a motor fine-tuned for reduced vibration and improved rotational balance, thanks to meticulous adjustments to the pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft, flywheel, and clutch cover. This refined tuning gives the BRZ STI Sport Type RA a distinct race car-like character with smoother and more responsive acceleration.

The enhancements continue beyond the engine bay. The car rides on 18-inch BBS forged alloy wheels finished in matte bronze or gray, paired with ZF dampers for superior handling and Brembo brakes with gold-painted calipers for confidence under pressure. Even the rear differential has been upgraded with cooling fins inspired by Subaru’s endurance racers, improving performance during spirited driving.

Subaru Tecnica International has added several key upgrades to sharpen the car’s driving dynamics. These include a front and rear under spoiler, an upgraded muffler for deeper exhaust notes, a reinforced sway bar, and a draw stiffener that minimizes chassis flex. The carbon fiber rear wing instantly stands out, adding both visual drama and aerodynamic balance. Inside, the cabin features red stitching on the seats, blacked-out door handles, and a special engine plaque to remind owners they are driving something rare.

The STI Sport Type RA comes exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission featuring shift assist—a system that allows drivers to upshift without lifting off the accelerator while matching revs on downshifts. It’s an ideal setup for purists who appreciate control and precision behind the wheel.

In Japan, pricing starts at 4,972,000 yen (approximately $32,100) for the model without the rear wing, while the winged version costs 5,478,000 yen (around $35,400). Only 300 units will be produced, and buyers will have to enter a lottery for the chance to own one. Subaru dealerships are already accepting applications until November 30. The car will also make a public appearance at Fuji Speedway during the final round of the Super Taikyu Series, giving fans a firsthand look at this refined track-inspired coupe.

Subaru has once again proven that even without a turbocharger or hybrid system, it knows how to keep its sports coupe exciting. The BRZ STI Sport Type RA is not just a collector’s item—it is a celebration of balance, driver engagement, and mechanical purity.
