Why the Mazda 6e Just Redefined Electric Vehicle Safety Standards
The new Mazda 6e has made a strong entrance into 2025 with impressive safety scores from Euro NCAP, achieving a 5-star rating. This fully electric 5-door hatchback secured 93% for Adult Occupant protection, 93% for Child Occupant protection, 74% for Vulnerable Road Users, and 77% for Safety Assist. These scores clearly show Mazda’s dedication to safety and innovation in electric mobility.
During frontal and lateral impact tests, the Mazda 6e’s passenger compartment remained stable, with excellent protection for the driver and passengers. The car demonstrated good performance in both the side barrier and side pole tests, where all critical areas received strong ratings. Its structural design not only safeguards occupants but also minimizes damage to other vehicles during collisions. Additionally, the inclusion of features like an advanced eCall system and multi-collision braking further reinforces Mazda’s focus on real-world safety.
For child safety, the Mazda 6e delivered outstanding results. Both the 6-year-old and 10-year-old dummy tests achieved maximum points for protection in frontal and side impacts. The vehicle also features a child presence detection system that alerts when a child or infant is left inside the car—an increasingly vital feature for families. The front passenger airbag can be disabled, making it safe for rearward-facing child seats, and clear in-car indicators help the driver confirm the airbag status.
Pedestrian and cyclist protection also received significant attention. The autonomous emergency braking system (Smart Brake Support and Forward Obstruction Warning) detects pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists with strong accuracy. It effectively prevents or reduces the severity of impacts, especially in daytime conditions. Mazda even integrated a cyclist dooring prevention function to avoid accidents caused by suddenly opened doors.
The 6e’s driver-assistance technologies include intelligent speed limit recognition, fatigue and distraction monitoring through direct eye tracking, and an advanced lane-keeping assist system. Together, these tools provide extra confidence and control in everyday driving situations.
Mazda has truly raised the bar with the 6e, blending innovative electric design with high safety performance and smart driver support systems. It is a clear example of how the brand continues to prioritize both technology and human safety.
