Watch Li Auto i8 Lift a Truck Off the Ground in Crash Test
Despite being a brand-new electric SUV, the Li Auto i8 made waves not with its powertrain or luxury, but with a crash test that went viral. In a high-impact demonstration, the i8 collided head-on with an 8-ton truck at a combined speed of 100 kilometers per hour. The moment the footage dropped, people could not believe what they saw—the massive truck was lifted off the ground as the much smaller i8 held its own.
The test was conducted by the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute, and it showed the i8’s impressive structural integrity. The A-pillars, B-pillars, and C-pillars remained intact. All nine airbags deployed, doors unlocked automatically, and the battery showed no signs of leakage or fire.
However, the internet quickly turned its attention to something else—the use of a recognizable Chenglong truck brand without permission. Dongfeng Liuzhou, the truck’s manufacturer, condemned the use of its vehicle and announced potential legal action. Li Auto later clarified that the truck was a modified moving barrier meant only to evaluate the i8’s passive safety, not to target any brand.
Regardless of the controversy, this test turned heads. Do not forget to like, subscribe, and hit the notification bell so you never miss out on these wild moments in automotive safety.
