This FIAT Charges in 5 Minutes Without a Plug – Here Is How
FIAT is taking a big step forward in electric vehicle technology by introducing something that could completely change how people charge their cars. In partnership with Ample and Free2move, FIAT is rolling out a battery swapping system that takes just 5 minutes to complete. That is right—5 minutes and you are good to go, which means no more long waits at traditional charging stations.
This pilot project is kicking off in Madrid, where the first station powered by Ample’s innovative battery swap technology has been installed. It is being tested using a fleet of Fiat 500 electric models operated by Free2move, a mobility service. For now, the focus is on testing and perfecting the experience, but the goal is to make it available to private vehicle owners in the near future.
By mid-2025, this urban electric fleet will grow to 100 units, allowing more people in Madrid to experience the convenience of this new approach. The system is designed to eliminate one of the most frustrating parts of owning an electric vehicle—waiting for a charge. Instead, a quick stop at a swapping station lets drivers continue on their way with a fully charged battery.
This move shows how collaboration and smart tech can help push the boundaries of electric mobility. With rapid battery replacement and easy integration into existing city infrastructure, FIAT is not just making electric vehicles more practical—they are making them more appealing for everyday use.
