The Stunning De Tomaso P72 Is Finally Road-Ready – 700 HP V8 Manual Beast

It has been a long wait, but the De Tomaso P72 is finally making the jump from concept to reality. After six years of development and silence, the revived brand is now ready to hand over its first production units. And just like its original debut back in 2019, the P72 still turns heads with its striking beauty.

The finalized version of the P72 stays incredibly faithful to the concept we first saw. This car draws deep inspiration from the 1965 De Tomaso P70, a project born from the collaboration between Alejandro De Tomaso and Carroll Shelby. That classic heritage is clear in every curve and design line.

One standout model wears a crisp white paint job accented by rose gold highlights on the wheels, mirror caps, and striping. The wheels even echo the original P70’s vintage style.

Underneath its elegant bodywork, the P72 rides on a carbon fiber monocoque chassis crafted from a single continuous structure—no welding or bonding anywhere. De Tomaso claims this engineering sets a whole new standard for structural purity.

Inside, you will not find digital screens or distracting infotainment features. The cabin is entirely focused on delivering a purist driving experience. Hand-stitched white leather meets raw carbon fiber, while old-school machined aluminum switches and gauges, finished in rose gold, decorate the dashboard. Even the shifter gets the same luxury treatment.

Powering the P72 is a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine developed specifically for this car. It is based on the Ford Coyote engine and tuned by Roush to produce 700 horsepower and 604 pound-feet of torque. Power goes to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. No official numbers on zero to sixty or top speed are available, but De Tomaso says the car is not about winning speed wars—it is about driving feel.

Suspension tuning is also manual. The car uses a pushrod suspension setup with three-way adjustable dampers, allowing the driver to tailor the ride to their preferences.

As CEO Norman Choi put it, this car is about mechanical soul, timeless style, and raw emotion behind the wheel. And judging by how it looks and sounds, the De Tomaso P72 might just be worth every second of the wait.
