New VW T-Roc R Render: Golf R Power in an SUV Body Explained

Volkswagen is gearing up to launch the most powerful version of its second-generation T-Roc crossover, and this time, it is taking things up a notch with the R performance badge. Recently, the German automaker shared the first sketches, revealing a glimpse of what to expect from the sporty model’s aggressive exterior. The front end stands out with a reworked bumper, a large air intake, and glossy black trim with three horizontal bars. Subtle color inserts will likely match the body tone, taking inspiration from the design of the Golf R.

Moving to the rear, the upcoming T-Roc R will feature a redesigned lower bumper and a quad exhaust setup that instantly signals performance. New multi-spoke wheels complete the athletic look, adding a strong stance to the compact crossover’s silhouette. Under the skin, it rides on Volkswagen’s updated MQB Evo platform, which provides a stiffer structure and better handling dynamics than before.

Powering the new T-Roc R is expected to be a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 333 horsepower and 420 Newton-meters of torque. That is a noticeable upgrade compared to the previous T-Roc R, which had 300 horsepower and 400 Newton-meters. While details about the transmission remain unconfirmed, it is likely to feature the brand’s seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and all-wheel drive system.

The official debut of this new model is expected in December 2025, and it is set to become one of Volkswagen’s most exciting compact performance SUVs.
