New Great Wall Gaoshan Revealed: Secret Weapon Against Alphard?
The new Great Wall Motors High Mountain, also known as the WEY Gaoshan, is turning heads in the premium minivan segment. This plug-in hybrid multi-purpose vehicle brings together cutting-edge technology, high-end comfort, and elegant Chinese design language. It is Great Wall’s bold answer to models like the Toyota Alphard, but with a distinct personality of its own.
From the outside, the Gaoshan is hard to miss. A huge vertical chrome grille dominates the front, flanked by sleek Galaxy Stream headlights that give it a futuristic yet composed look. The floating roof design and strong side profile are highlighted by power-sliding rear doors, adding functionality and style. Around the back, bamboo-inspired taillights bring a touch of art to the lighting signature.
Inside, the High Mountain feels more like a private lounge than a car. The cabin is influenced by Huīzhōu-style architecture and uses warm ambient lighting, soft-touch materials, and clever design elements. It comes in 6 or 7-seat layouts, both offering second-row captain chairs that feature heating, ventilation, and a massage function. The Gaoshan pampers its passengers.
There are high-tech touches everywhere. A dual-screen setup with a wide 91-degree viewing angle sits up front. Rear passengers enjoy a 12.5-liter refrigerator that can maintain cooling for 24 hours after the car is turned off, with a temperature range from 0 to 50 degrees Celsius. Wireless phone charging, hidden storage, ISOFIX mounts, and window shades complete the thoughtful design.
Under the hood, the Gaoshan uses the Hi4 Performance hybrid setup, combining a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with dual electric motors. This system delivers 337 kilowatts and 644 newton-meters of torque, allowing acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 5.7 seconds. The Gaoshan 9 version includes a 51.55 kilowatt-hour battery and a WLTC-rated electric range of 201 kilometers.
The van comes in three sizes: Gaoshan 7 is 5,045 millimeters long with a wheelbase of 3,085 millimeters. Gaoshan 8 is 5,205 millimeters long, and Gaoshan 9 stretches to 5,405 millimeters with a massive 3,275-millimeter wheelbase. Pricing starts at 329,800 yuan for the larger variants, with Gaoshan 7’s pricing to be announced.
Great Wall is not just building a minivan; it is redefining what family travel can feel like in the modern era.
