New BMW R 1300 RT Review: Most Powerful BMW Tourer Yet!

New BMW R 1300 RT Review: Most Powerful BMW Tourer Yet!

BMW Motorrad has taken everything people loved about the R 1250 RT and reworked it into something more powerful, more comfortable, and even more versatile. The 2026 BMW R 1300 RT is not just an update—it is a complete rethinking of what a modern touring motorcycle can be. Lighter, faster, and loaded with intelligent technology, this bike is built for riders who want long-distance comfort without sacrificing performance.

At the heart of the new R 1300 RT is a redesigned 1,300 cc boxer engine that pushes out 145 horsepower and 110 pound-feet of torque. Compared to the previous model, it is not only stronger, but it is also smoother and more efficient. The integration of BMW’s ShiftCam technology allows the engine to seamlessly adjust for performance or economy based on how the bike is being ridden. Whether you are taking on twisty roads or cruising down the highway, the power delivery feels refined and robust.

The suspension has also been completely revamped. BMW’s EVO Telelever front and EVO Paralever rear suspension work together to give you more stability and precision through the corners. Riders who opt for the Dynamic Chassis Adjustment system can switch between Comfort and Dynamic modes, changing damping and preload settings on the fly. The result is a ride that is equally ready for spirited cornering and long-haul touring.

Design-wise, the new R 1300 RT looks more athletic and compact while improving rider and passenger comfort. The wind protection is enhanced with adjustable side trims and an optional variable wind deflector. BMW even reshaped the foot area to better protect from water and road grime. Riders will appreciate the more active seating position, new handlebar geometry, and adjustable seats. With seat height starting as low as 30.7 inches, accessibility is better than ever.

Technology has taken a huge leap forward. The 10.25-inch TFT color display not only shows speed and RPM but also integrates full map navigation, ride modes, bike status, and Bluetooth connectivity. Optional systems like Headlight Pro with adaptive cornering light, and the Riding Assistant featuring Active Cruise Control and Frontal Collision Warning, bring high-end car safety features into the two-wheel world.

BMW did not forget about passenger comfort either. The available Comfort Passenger Package brings heated seats, grips, and even a heated backrest for the topcase. The new variable luggage system allows side cases to expand from 27 to 33 liters, and the 54-liter topcase offers powered locking and lighting.

BMW’s focus on ergonomics and usability also shines through in the new Automatic Shift Assistant (ASA). This system gives riders the option to shift gears automatically or manually without needing a clutch lever. Perfect for city riding or long touring days, ASA smooths out gear transitions, enhancing comfort and control.

On the braking side, the R 1300 RT includes BMW’s Fully Integral ABS Pro system. This smart system balances front and rear brakes automatically while adapting to lean angle and road conditions. Riders can also opt for a Sport Brake with upgraded calipers for even more bite.

At every level, the new R 1300 RT blends comfort, sportiness, and innovation into one impressive machine.
