Inside Cullinan Cosmos: Hand-Painted Starlight Headliner Takes 160 Hours

Rolls-Royce has created a 1 of 1 Cullinan named Cosmos, a commission shaped by a family’s shared curiosity for the night sky and the imagination of their 4 year old. It is a luxury SUV that feels like a quiet observatory on wheels, where every surface points your eyes upward and your mind outward.

Outside, the body wears Arabescato Pearl, a soft, lunar shimmer that changes gently as the light moves. A twin coachline in Charles Blue traces the flanks with precision, while the Illuminated Spirit of Ecstasy glows after dark like a single star you cannot help but notice.

Open the doors and the cabin settles your breathing. Charles Blue and Grace White leather recliners, finished with Grace White piping and contrast stitching, set a calm tone. Piano White veneers add a crisp, technical note, reminiscent of satellite panels. The family worked with designers to create a Star Cluster motif: delicate embroidery on door panels and headrests and a hand-painted fascia for the front passenger, turning the dash into a personal night sky.

The headline act is overhead. Cosmos debuts the first fully hand-painted Starlight Headliner ever fitted to a Rolls-Royce. One of the marque’s in-house artists spent 160 hours painting a color-graded interpretation of the Milky Way. To build depth, the artist layered more than 20 applications of acrylic with different brushes, then used an unexpected tool—a makeup brush—to lay down the lightest mist so it dries like cosmic dust. A speckling technique and fine pointed brushes created a field of stars with natural variation. Only when the painting was sealed did craftspeople add each fiber optic perforation by hand to align with the artwork’s contours, so the light feels born from the paint rather than placed on top of it.

Commissioned through Private Office Dubai and delivered for a family milestone, Cullinan Cosmos is designed to turn every errand into a small voyage. Official figures list Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure combined carbon dioxide emissions from 380 to 363 grams per kilometer, with fuel consumption of 16.8 to 17.7 miles per gallon, or 16.8 to 16.0 liters per 100 kilometers.
