New 2026 Mercedes Benz GLB Render – Electric Power, Big Tech, Bold Design
The second generation Mercedes Benz GLB is getting ready to step into the spotlight, and it already feels like one of those models that will look familiar yet very new at the same time. Recent prototype images show crossovers with much less camouflage than before, and they match up nicely with the official interior preview that Mercedes Benz revealed earlier. Put together, they give us a clear picture of how the new GLB is evolving, inside and out, without losing what people already like about it.
From the outside, the overall shape stays close to the current GLB, so owners of the first generation will recognize it instantly. The big change comes in the details. At the front, the headlights will adopt the new Mercedes Benz signature with light emitting diode daytime running lights shaped like three pointed stars, likely tied together by a slim light emitting diode strip, similar to what we have already seen on the new CLA. The radiator grille sits slightly lower, giving the front end a more planted and confident stance. Along the sides, the crossover gains retractable door handles and a cleaner window line. The rear door pillars will be hidden behind the glass, and that small touch makes the whole side profile look more modern and premium.
The rear of the GLB is where the transformation is most dramatic. The current horizontal tail lights will give way to upright light blocks, connected by a narrow light emitting diode strip running across the tailgate area. The license plate moves from the trunk lid down into the rear bumper, which visually cleans up the upper part of the back and makes the design feel more robust. It is still clearly a practical family sport utility vehicle, but now it has the visual presence to match the latest Mercedes Benz design language across the lineup.
Under the skin, the new GLB moves to the Mercedes Benz Modular Architecture platform, the same base used for the upcoming third generation CLA. That means a big step forward in technology and flexibility. Fully electric versions are planned, including a single motor model with about 272 horsepower and a dual motor all wheel drive variant with around 354 horsepower. At the same time, Mercedes Benz is not abandoning traditional buyers. Hybrid powertrains with a 1.5 liter four cylinder engine, an integrated electric motor, an eight speed dual clutch transmission, and a compact 1.3 kilowatt hour battery are expected. Output figures should be in the range of 156 horsepower with 280 newton meters of torque or 184 horsepower with 330 newton meters of torque, giving families a choice between efficiency and stronger performance.
Inside, the GLB will continue to focus on versatility and everyday comfort, but now with a cabin that feels much closer to Mercedes Benz higher end models. Think wide screens, clean minimal surfaces, and more advanced software and driver assistance features, all wrapped in materials that feel nicer to the touch. It is still the practical compact crossover that can haul kids, luggage, and everything in between, just with a more refined attitude.
The official premiere of the new Mercedes Benz GLB is scheduled for December 8, and it looks like it will be an important model for families who want space and technology without going to a larger, more expensive sport utility vehicle.
