Updated Ford Mustang GTD Spotted Testing Again at the Nürburgring
The Ford Mustang GTD is back at the Nürburgring, and it is not the same car we saw before. This updated version looks sharper, louder, and more determined to prove its capability around the world’s most demanding track. Ford has clearly been working behind the scenes, refining every aerodynamic detail to squeeze out every fraction of a second.
The most noticeable upgrades come from its aero package. New Aerodisks on the rear wheels immediately grab attention. These lightweight covers are designed to reduce turbulence and smooth airflow along the car’s sides, a technique often seen on race cars. Up front, the revised bumper features fresh canards that help channel air with greater precision. Even the hood has received new adjustable flaps within the air outlets, resembling the active elements found on the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
The engine note also tells a different story. Trackside observers report that the updated GTD sounds more restrained than before, possibly due to Nürburgring noise restrictions. Still, Ford’s engineers seem to be experimenting with the exhaust layout. The test car shows downward-facing muffler tips aimed at the pavement, an unusual design choice that might influence both noise management and aerodynamic flow.
Despite these changes, the Mustang GTD’s purpose remains the same: to dominate the track. Cooler fall temperatures mean Ford’s testing window is shrinking, but it is clear the Blue Oval is making every lap count. Each test run brings them closer to perfecting what could become the most advanced Mustang ever built.
