Capricorn 01 Zagato: The $3.4 Million Handcrafted Supercar With a Manual Transmission
Capricorn Group might not be a household name, but its fingerprints are all over the racing world. The German engineering firm supplies high-performance components to Formula 1, Le Mans Prototype 1, and the World Endurance Championship. Now, Capricorn has decided to create something for itself—a road-going supercar called the 01 Zagato, and it is unlike anything we have seen before.
The 01 Zagato is a pure driver’s car built for emotion, not electronics. It skips flashy screens and tech gimmicks in favor of raw mechanical engagement. Power comes from a supercharged 5.2-liter Ford V8 paired with a 5-speed dogleg manual transmission. Together, they deliver a stunning 888 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. The result is staggering performance: 0 to 62 miles per hour in under 3.0 seconds and a top speed of 224 miles per hour.
Capricorn Group Founder and CEO Robertino Wild summed it up perfectly: “The car is designed for the joy of driving, not for setting records.” Every part of the Zagato reflects that philosophy. It features a dry-sump lubrication system, custom crankshaft and pistons, a hand-built exhaust, and a proprietary ECU tune. The braking system includes carbon-ceramic discs and six-piston Brembo calipers hiding behind Capricorn’s own 21-inch alloy or carbon-fiber wheels.
The cabin keeps things beautifully simple. There are three analog gauges, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with just two buttons, and fixed seats paired with an adjustable pedal box, steering column, and gear selector. Even the shifter can move longitudinally by 3.1 inches for a perfect fit. The interior combines exposed carbon fiber with titanium and aluminum switchgear, while Connolly leather and Alcantara accents bring a sense of timeless luxury.
Unlike many modern supercars covered in wings and vents, the 01 Zagato takes a clean, sculpted approach. Its aerodynamic performance comes from internal airflow management and a precisely engineered underfloor rather than oversized spoilers. The carbon-fiber chassis, double-wishbone pushrod suspension, and Bilstein dampers ensure track-level precision without sacrificing road usability.
Capricorn plans to begin production of the 01 Zagato in the first half of 2026. Only 19 examples will be built, each priced at €2.95 million—or about $3.4 million. Unfortunately for American enthusiasts, the car will not be sold in the United States. But for those who get one, it will not just be a car—it will be a masterpiece of mechanical art.
