Tesla saved its most exciting Model Y for last, and it finally lands in Europe with a clear mission: bring back the spark. The Performance version steps into a tougher market, but it arrives with real substance. It delivers 460 horsepower from a dual-motor setup and launches to 62 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds, or to 60 miles per hour in 3.3 seconds. For a family-size electric crossover that weighs 4,482 pounds, that kind of shove feels instant and confident, the kind that turns short on-ramps into effortless merges.

Battery specifications remain under wraps, yet Tesla says the cells are more energy-dense than before. The Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure estimate is 360 miles, which is only 4 miles shy of the Long Range all wheel drive model. If you are road-tripping, a quick 15 minute Supercharger stop can add an estimated 151 miles of driving. That combination—speed when you want it, range when you need it—is what makes this trim compelling beyond the spec sheet.

Underneath, the 2026 Model Y Performance borrows adaptive dampers from the latest Model 3 Performance and retunes them for the taller body. It sits on 21 inch forged wheels wearing purpose-designed tires, with red brake calipers signaling the intent. Subtle exterior changes such as the carbon rear spoiler are not decoration; Tesla says they increase downforce and reduce drag, which you will feel as extra stability on fast sweepers and a touch more efficiency at a cruise.

The cabin takes a noticeable step forward. A 16 inch touchscreen with higher resolution sharpens maps and menus. Front seats are heated and ventilated with firmer bolsters and extendable thigh support, so spirited driving does not mean sore hips. Passengers in back get perforated, heated seats with power recline, which is a rare luxury in this class. New drive modes promise more freedom for high-speed driving, while extra sound insulation and acoustic glass lower the noise that often comes with big wheels and sticky tires.

Production for Europe happens in Germany at Gigafactory Berlin Brandenburg. In Germany, pricing starts at €61,990, which is about €9,000 more than the Long Range all wheel drive. Deliveries begin in September. The Performance trim follows a stretched six seat version for China and arrives ahead of a lower-price entry model aimed at volume. Whether it moves the needle on the sales chart remains to be seen, but on the road, it feels like the Model Y many enthusiasts were waiting for.
