All-New NIO ES8 SUV: Bigger, Smarter, and Faster Than Ever

All-New NIO ES8 SUV: Bigger, Smarter, and Faster Than Ever

The new third-generation NIO ES8 has officially been revealed, and it marks a major step forward for the brand’s flagship sport utility vehicle. Presented today in Chengdu, the all-electric ES8 now moves into the full-size category with impressive dimensions. It measures 5,280 mm in length, 2,010 mm in width, 1,800 mm in height, and rides on a 3,250 mm wheelbase, giving it more presence and interior room than ever before.

Built on NIO’s new NT3.0 platform, also shared with the ET9 flagship sedan, the latest ES8 combines advanced engineering with cutting-edge technology. It comes standard with a 100 kWh battery capable of 4C fast charging, delivering up to 250 km of driving range in just 5 minutes of charging. For drivers who want even more, a 120 kWh battery option will be available later with 5C charging, allowing a full charge in only 12 minutes. NIO also continues to offer its well-known 3-minute battery swap service, keeping downtime to a minimum.

The pricing has taken a sharp turn in the consumer’s favor. The standard model with a 100 kWh battery starts at RMB 416,800, which is around $58,000. Under NIO’s Battery-as-a-Service program, buyers can get the ES8 for RMB 308,800, making it even more competitive and cheaper than some Tesla offerings in China. This positions the ES8 as one of the most cost-effective premium full-size electric sport utility vehicles on the market.

On the technology side, the ES8 now carries three LiDAR sensors—one on the roof and two on the sides—plus a 4D imaging radar system. These upgrades push its autonomous driving capability closer to that of the ET9, while also improving safety and driver assistance features. The exterior styling has also been updated, featuring sharper lines, flush windows, and massive 22-inch forged wheels that add to its luxury appeal.

Pre-sales are already underway across more than 300 NIO stores, with official deliveries scheduled to begin during NIO Day 2025 in late September. The new ES8 represents a bold leap for the company, offering more space, smarter technology, and faster charging, all while lowering the entry price. It is clear that NIO is aiming to challenge global competitors with this flagship model.
