Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Production Version Nürburgring Lap Record

Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Production Version Nürburgring Lap Record

Xiaomi, the Chinese tech company that made its name in the smartphone market, is now officially making waves in the automotive world. Their first car, the SU7, has already shaken things up, especially with its high-performance Ultra version. While the prototype made headlines by tearing through the Nürburgring in just 6 minutes and 46.8 seconds last October, the production version recently returned to the track to prove it could still hold its own.

The production-ready SU7 Ultra, now available to buyers in China, did not quite match the earlier prototype’s stripped-down performance. Still, it posted an extremely impressive lap time of 7 minutes and 4.95 seconds. That is quicker than the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, which ran the same 20.8-kilometer layout in 7 minutes and 7.55 seconds.

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra did more than just beat Porsche—it also edged out the Rimac Nevera. The Croatian electric hypercar had previously completed the circuit in 7 minutes and 5.29 seconds. This now puts Xiaomi’s electric super sedan ahead of some of the world’s most elite electric vehicles on the Nürburgring production EV leaderboard.

It is worth noting that none of these numbers threaten the current king of the ‘Ring, the Mercedes-AMG One. That Formula One-powered beast set a blistering production car lap record of 6 minutes and 29 seconds last year. And in terms of the overall record, that still belongs to the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo, a track-only monster that lapped the course in 5 minutes and 19.55 seconds.

Onboard footage released by Xiaomi shows the SU7 Ultra hitting a GPS-verified top speed of 215 miles per hour. That achievement makes it the fastest production sedan in the world, regardless of whether it is powered by gasoline or electricity. It overtakes the Maserati Ghibli 334 Ultima, which previously held the title at 208 miles per hour. That makes Xiaomi’s sedan 1 mile per hour quicker than the Bentley Flying Spur W12 and 2 miles per hour quicker than the Lucid Air Sapphire.

Xiaomi says the SU7 Ultra could go even faster. With a long enough stretch of road, it is capable of topping 217 miles per hour. And the car that lapped the Nürburgring was not entirely stock—it was fitted with the optional track package that buyers can actually order. That means it still qualifies as a production model.

Underneath the sleek body is a tri-motor setup delivering 1,527 horsepower. The SU7 Ultra rockets from zero to 62 miles per hour in just 1.98 seconds. It is also a big car—longer than the Taycan at 201.3 inches and weighing in at 5,203 pounds. It officially went on sale in China at the end of February, with a starting price of 529,900 yuan, which is roughly 74,000 United States dollars.
