Inside China’s $990,000 Hongqi Guoli – Is It Worth the Price?

Inside China’s $990,000 Hongqi Guoli – Is It Worth the Price?

Hongqi is raising the bar for ultra-premium sedans with the Guoli, its newest flagship under the exclusive Golden Sunflower line. This lineup represents the pinnacle of luxury for the Chinese automaker, and the Guoli stands as its crown jewel, with a price tag of 7.18 million yuan or approximately 990,000 United States dollars.

The Guoli replaces the Hongqi L5, evolving its legacy with even more presence and grandeur. Up front, it features a massive vertical waterfall-style grille paired with rounded retro-style headlights. The headlight design, inspired by ancient Chinese cosmology, plays on the idea that the sky is round and the earth is square. The Hongqi badge at the front is not just decorative—it is retractable and angled forward at exactly 23.5 degrees to match the tilt of Earth’s axis.

This sedan is truly massive. It stretches 5980 millimeters long, 2090 millimeters wide, and 1710 millimeters tall, with a wheelbase of 3730 millimeters. It weighs 3150 kilograms, and it is significantly longer than the previous L5 Zhizun Edition.

Powering the Guoli is a 4.0 liter V8 turbocharged engine producing 285 kilowatts or about 388 horsepower, with 530 Newton meters of torque. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and has a top speed of 220 kilometers per hour.

Inside, the cabin is fully wrapped in leather and loaded with signature Hongqi details. The dual-screen layout is clean and modern, and the 2+2 seat configuration brings executive comfort to the rear with electric seat adjustments, ventilation, massage functions, and a dedicated control panel in the armrest.

For anyone who values exclusivity, heritage, and high-end comfort, the Hongqi Guoli is a rolling statement of status.
