The upcoming Volvo EX60 Cross Country represents an important step in Volvo’s shift toward fully electric vehicles while still staying true to the brand’s reputation for practicality and adventure. Volvo has spent decades building Cross Country versions of its vehicles for drivers who want something a little tougher than a traditional sport utility vehicle without moving into full off road territory. The EX60 Cross Country follows that same philosophy, but this time it does so with an all electric powertrain.

At its core, the EX60 Cross Country is expected to serve as the electric counterpart to the well known Volvo XC60. The XC60 has been one of Volvo’s best selling models globally, so moving that formula into the electric era is a natural step for the brand. With the EX60, Volvo is aiming to deliver a midsize electric luxury sport utility vehicle that balances performance, technology, safety, and everyday usability.

The new model will ride on Volvo’s next generation SPA3 electric architecture. This platform introduces a more advanced battery structure that integrates the battery pack directly into the vehicle body. The design improves stiffness, reduces weight, and allows engineers to simplify the manufacturing process. It also supports higher voltage systems that enable faster charging and improved efficiency.

Volvo is expected to offer several powertrain options across the EX60 lineup. Entry models could feature a single motor configuration producing about 369 horsepower with rear wheel drive. Higher trims will likely use dual electric motors to deliver all wheel drive and significantly more performance. Early information suggests that stronger versions could produce around 503 horsepower, while the most powerful configuration may approach 670 horsepower.

Performance should reflect those numbers. The most powerful versions of the EX60 could accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in roughly 3.9 seconds, placing it firmly in performance sport utility vehicle territory. That level of acceleration would allow the EX60 Cross Country to compete with many performance oriented electric crossovers currently entering the market.

Battery capacity will also play a major role in the vehicle’s appeal. Volvo is expected to offer battery packs ranging from approximately 80 kilowatt hours to as large as 112 kilowatt hours. Depending on the configuration, driving range could reach up to about 400 miles under ideal conditions. Thanks to its advanced charging system, the EX60 may be capable of adding roughly 173 miles of range in about 10 minutes when connected to a powerful fast charger.

Where the Cross Country version separates itself from the standard EX60 is in its rugged personality. Volvo plans to give the Cross Country model additional ground clearance, likely around 20 millimeters higher than the standard vehicle. An optional air suspension system may allow drivers to raise the vehicle even further when traveling on uneven surfaces.

Design changes will reinforce that adventurous character. Expect protective body cladding around the wheel arches, unique wheels, and skid plates integrated into the front and rear bumpers. These features are not intended for extreme rock crawling, but they help drivers feel confident when exploring dirt roads, snowy trails, or remote camping locations.

Inside the cabin, the EX60 Cross Country will continue Volvo’s minimalist Scandinavian approach to interior design. A large central touchscreen, likely around 15 inches, will control most vehicle functions and run a Google based infotainment system. The interface is expected to support voice commands, navigation, and seamless smartphone connectivity.

Volvo’s commitment to safety remains a defining part of the EX60 story. The vehicle will feature an advanced network of cameras, radar sensors, and driver assistance systems designed to prevent collisions and support semi automated driving functions. Volvo is also introducing a new multi adaptive safety belt system that adjusts protection based on the passenger’s body shape and seating position.

Cargo space and practicality should remain strong selling points as well. With the rear seats folded, the EX60 could provide up to 64.3 cubic feet of cargo capacity, making it useful for families, outdoor gear, and road trips.

Pricing has not been confirmed, but industry expectations suggest the EX60 could start around 60000 dollars and climb toward 75000 dollars depending on equipment and performance levels. Production is expected to begin around 2026, with the Cross Country variant arriving shortly afterward.

For buyers who want a premium electric sport utility vehicle that blends performance, safety, and outdoor capability, the Volvo EX60 Cross Country is shaping up to be one of the most interesting electric launches in the coming years.
