Toyota GR GT First Look! Everything We Know So Far

Toyota has quietly revealed what could become its most exciting performance car in decades, and it is already generating plenty of discussion among enthusiasts. While many people have been calling it the Toyota GR GT, the company is making it clear that this new flagship is simply known as the GR GT. That subtle change is important because Gazoo Racing is evolving into its own performance-focused sub-brand alongside Toyota, Lexus, and Century.

The GR GT introduces several engineering firsts for the company. It rides on an all-aluminum chassis, something Toyota has never used on one of its production sports cars before. To reduce weight even further, the roof, hood, and doors are all made from carbon fiber. Power comes from a newly developed twin turbocharged V8 engine, marking the first time Toyota has installed this type of engine in one of its road cars.

The engineering underneath is just as impressive as what you see on the outside. The engine sits behind the front axle, creating a front mid engine layout that improves balance. Toyota has also developed a new rear transaxle system that places the 8 speed automatic transmission at the rear of the car. An electric motor is integrated around the clutch assembly to provide instant torque, helping reduce turbo lag without turning the car into a traditional hybrid. According to Toyota, the engine is always running, while the electric motor simply adds extra performance when needed.

The company estimates that the GR GT will produce more than 650 horsepower and 850 newton meters of torque. Top speed is expected to exceed 320 kilometers per hour, putting the car comfortably into the 200 mile per hour category. To keep everything under control, Toyota fitted enormous carbon ceramic brakes with Brembo calipers along with forged double wishbone suspension at both ends. Adjustable coilover suspension and adaptive dampers should also allow drivers to tailor the car for road or track use.

The design is equally purposeful. Every vent, duct, and opening serves a genuine aerodynamic or cooling function. Unlike many modern performance cars, there are no decorative vents anywhere on the body. The entire shape was reportedly developed by engineers in the wind tunnel before designers refined its appearance, resulting in a car where function leads style.

Inside, the cabin combines luxury with motorsport inspiration. Carbon fiber bucket seats, Alcantara trim, red accents, paddle shifters, wireless charging, and a half roll cage create an environment that feels ready for both daily driving and serious track sessions. Physical climate control buttons remain, something many drivers will appreciate.

Although Toyota continues referring to the vehicle as a prototype, several clues suggest production is much closer than expected. The car features production style headlights, road legal mirrors, homologated glass, and other details that rarely appear on early concepts. Pricing has not been confirmed, but estimates suggest it could start around £150,000, placing it directly against the Porsche 911 GT3.

Toyota also showcased a dramatic Lexus concept built on the same architecture. While fully electric, the concept pays tribute to the legendary LFA with familiar proportions, signature styling cues, and even simulated engine sounds. Although Lexus remains secretive about its specifications, the concept hints at an all-new flagship supercar that could eventually succeed one of the brand’s most celebrated models.

Whether buyers choose the V8 powered GR GT or look ahead to Lexus’ electric future, one thing is becoming clear. Toyota is entering a new era of high performance, combining racing technology, advanced engineering, and everyday usability into vehicles designed to compete with the very best sports cars in the world.
