This Electric Sedan Adds 160 Miles in 5 Minutes
NIO is pushing boundaries again, and this time, it is with the all-new ET9. This full-size luxury electric sedan is not just a vehicle—it is a statement. Unveiled during NIO Day 2023, the ET9 is scheduled to begin deliveries in China by March 2025. Packed with next-generation technology and comfort features, it is positioned to compete directly with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQS and Lucid Air.
The ET9 uses a powerful dual-motor setup, combining a 340-kilowatt permanent magnet synchronous motor in the rear with a 180-kilowatt induction motor up front. Together, this delivers a total output of 697 horsepower and 900 newton-meters of torque. This powertrain launches the sedan from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.8 seconds. While top speed is limited to 200 kilometers per hour, it is clear that performance was not an afterthought.
What makes the ET9 stand out even more is its 120-kilowatt-hour battery pack, which offers up to 720 kilometers of WLTP range. Charging is just as impressive—thanks to 600-kilowatt DC fast charging capability, the ET9 can gain about 255 kilometers of range in only 5 minutes. That makes it one of the fastest-charging electric vehicles in the world right now.
Underneath the surface, NIO introduces its SkyRide Intelligent Chassis system, which features active hydraulic suspension, steer-by-wire technology, and rear-wheel steering with up to 8.3 degrees of movement. Combined, these technologies promise not just a smooth ride but a dynamic and engaging one.
Inside, the ET9 is nothing short of first-class. It is designed as a four-seater, with individual rear seats offering 18-way adjustability, including a deep recline of up to 45 degrees. Back-seat passengers are treated to luxury features such as retractable tables, a refrigerator, and dedicated entertainment displays. There is even an 8-inch touchscreen controller for personalizing the rear experience.
In terms of in-cabin tech, the ET9 offers a 15.6-inch central display, two 14.6-inch rear screens, and a high-end LYRA 8.2.4.8 audio system for a 720-degree surround sound experience. Whether you are driving or relaxing in the back, this car is all about comfort and control.
Safety and autonomy also take a leap forward. The ET9 includes NIO’s Aquila 2.0 sensor suite, which brings together 31 sensors, including LiDAR and 4D millimeter-wave radars. Processing power is handled by the new 5-nanometer Shenji NX9031 chips, enabling advanced autonomous driving capabilities.
From the outside, the ET9 is just as impressive. It stretches 5325 millimeters in length, 2017 millimeters in width, and 1621 millimeters in height, with a generous 3250-millimeter wheelbase. Its sleek liftback design, floating wheel caps, extended puddle lights, and even a voice-activated front trunk add to its futuristic appeal.
Starting at $112,800, the ET9 sits in the upper echelon of electric sedans. Its First Edition sold out in just 12 hours, showing how much interest the brand commands. A Signature Edition followed shortly after.
This is more than just a car; the ET9 is NIO’s vision of what luxury and performance should feel like in an all-electric future.
