There is something interesting happening with this imagined BMW i6, and it goes beyond just the design. When you look at the proportions, the low roofline, and the wide stance, it feels like a proper grand tourer, not just another electric sedan. That alone gives us a pretty clear direction when it comes to what kind of powertrain this car would realistically use.

If BMW were to build an i6, it would almost certainly sit on the upcoming Neue Klasse platform. This is the same next generation electric architecture that BMW has been developing to replace everything we see today. It brings a big jump in efficiency, range, and charging speeds, and more importantly, it allows BMW to scale performance depending on the model.

For a car like this, a basic single motor setup would not make much sense. The 6 Series has always been about balance between comfort and performance, so the most likely configuration would be a dual motor all wheel drive system. That setup would give the car the kind of effortless acceleration you expect from a premium coupe while still keeping it usable as a daily driver.

Power output is where things get really interesting. Based on what BMW is already doing with its next generation electric models, a realistic estimate for a standard i6 would land somewhere between 500 and 600 horsepower. That would put it right in the sweet spot, fast enough to feel special, but still refined enough for long distance driving.

Then you start thinking about what BMW M might do with it. BMW has already hinted that future high performance electric models could use more advanced multi motor setups. So if an i6 M Performance or full M variant ever becomes real, it could easily push beyond 650 horsepower. At that point, you are looking at performance that rivals today’s top tier combustion cars, but delivered in a completely different way.

Another big piece of the puzzle is the battery and charging technology. The Neue Klasse platform is expected to use an 800 volt system, which means significantly faster charging times. In real world terms, that could allow the i6 to add a large amount of range in just a few minutes, making it much more practical for long trips.

Range is also expected to improve across the board. With better battery chemistry and more efficient motors, a car like this could realistically target over 400 miles of range depending on the configuration. That is exactly what a modern grand tourer needs, especially one that is meant to replace a traditional 6 Series.

When you put everything together, the picture becomes pretty clear. This render might not be an official BMW product, but the idea behind it is very real. A sleek electric coupe with strong performance, long range, and fast charging fits perfectly into where BMW is heading next.

And honestly, if BMW does decide to bring something like the i6 to life, it would not just be another electric car. It would be a statement about how the brand sees the future of driving, combining performance, design, and everyday usability into one package.
