The Secret Behind Bentley’s Stunning New Spectral Verdant Finish
Bentley has taken another major step toward the future of luxury car manufacturing with the opening of its brand-new Paint Shop at its headquarters in Crewe, England. The advanced facility is now fully operational and introduces a wider range of exterior finishes while supporting Bentley’s growing focus on customization, sustainability, and future electric vehicles.
The new Paint Shop is one of the largest investments in Bentley’s ongoing transformation project. Covering 12,500 square meters, the building has been designed not only for today’s vehicles but also for future models, including Bentley’s first battery electric vehicle that is scheduled to arrive later this year.
One of the biggest highlights is the introduction of a new paint finish called Spectral Verdant. Created by Bentley’s artisans, the color builds upon the company’s existing Verdant shade but adds a remarkable spectrum effect that changes and sparkles under natural light. The first vehicle to receive this finish is a unique Continental GT S featuring a hand-painted Union Flag racing stripe, demonstrating the level of craftsmanship available through Bentley’s bespoke Mulliner division.
Beyond the eye-catching colors, the facility introduces several technological advancements. Bentley has become the first automotive manufacturer to use Automated Guided Vehicles throughout a Paint Shop. These self-propelled carriers move vehicle bodies between workstations, increasing flexibility and helping support highly personalized paint requests from customers.
Sustainability also played a major role in the design. The facility uses advanced thermal management systems that recover and reuse energy generated during the painting process. As a result, the building requires little additional heating for much of the year. Bentley has also switched to a water-based paint primer, reducing environmental impact while improving efficiency.
Additional improvements include more precise paint application systems, reduced masking materials, and advanced filtration technology. Together, these changes are expected to reduce waste by up to 45 percent compared to the previous facility. A Residual Thermal Oxidizer system further improves environmental performance by reducing volatile organic compound emissions by up to 98 percent.
The new Paint Shop is more than just a manufacturing facility. It represents Bentley’s vision of combining traditional craftsmanship with advanced technology. As customers continue to demand unique and highly personalized vehicles, this investment gives Bentley the tools to create even more exclusive finishes while preparing for an increasingly electric future.
