The 2027 Honda Insight Is Back and It Is Now Fully Electric

Honda is bringing back a familiar name, but the vehicle itself has changed dramatically. The Insight is returning after a 4 year absence, and this time it arrives with an entirely new identity. Instead of a hybrid sedan, the latest Insight is now a fully electric crossover, marking a major shift for one of Honda’s most recognizable electrified models.

The Insight originally debuted decades ago as one of the first mass produced hybrid vehicles, helping introduce many drivers to electrification. Over the years the car evolved through several body styles. The earliest version was a coupe, followed by a hatchback and later a sedan. Each generation relied on a hybrid powertrain combining gasoline and electric power. The new model breaks away from that formula completely by going fully electric.

Visually, the new Insight adopts a sharp and modern look. The crossover body style reflects current market demand while giving the vehicle a more versatile character. At the front and rear, distinctive boomerang shaped lighting elements create a strong visual signature. Full width light bars stretch across both ends of the vehicle, following one of the most common design trends seen on new vehicles arriving for 2026.

Some observers will immediately notice that the design feels familiar. That is because the vehicle appears closely related to an electric crossover Honda already sells in China. The overall shape and proportions resemble the e:NS2 electric model developed through Honda’s joint venture with Dongfeng. The interior layout also shares several similarities, especially the dashboard structure and screen placement.

Inside the cabin, the technology focused design becomes clear. A large 12.8 inch touchscreen dominates the center of the dashboard while a 9.4 inch digital instrument cluster sits in front of the driver. The layout minimizes traditional buttons, especially for climate controls, reflecting the interface style commonly found in Chinese market electric vehicles.

Honda has not yet revealed the complete list of technical specifications, but a few key details are known. The company estimates a driving range of more than 311 miles using the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycle. The electric motor delivers 229 pound feet of torque and includes a Sport mode designed to sharpen acceleration while adding enhanced synthetic sound effects.

Those numbers strongly mirror the specifications of the e:NS2 crossover. That model produces 201 horsepower from a front mounted motor and uses a 68.8 kilowatt hour battery pack. Under the Chinese Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle, that configuration achieves an estimated range of 339 miles.

The equipment list suggests Honda is targeting a premium experience inside the new Insight. Features include electrically adjustable front seats, ventilated seating, and reclining rear seats designed for added comfort during longer trips. Ambient lighting and a 12 speaker Bose audio system help create a more upscale environment.

Technology continues with a head up display that projects information directly onto the windshield. A front facing camera can also record driving footage, which may prove useful in the event of an accident. Additional touches include a heated steering wheel, a compact electric sunroof, and even a built in fragrance dispenser for the cabin.

Honda plans to launch the electric Insight in Japan during the spring. Reservations are scheduled to open on March 19, giving customers their first chance to secure one of the brand’s newest electric vehicles. With its crossover shape, modern technology, and fully electric drivetrain, the reborn Insight represents a new chapter for a nameplate that once helped define the early hybrid era.
