The 2026 Shelby Super Snake Takes the Mustang to a New Extreme
Shelby is back doing what it does best, taking an already strong Mustang and turning it into something far more extreme. The 2026 Super Snake is built on the current S650 Mustang platform, and it sits at the very top of Shelby’s modern lineup. This car is not about subtle changes or minor upgrades. It is about presence, power, and pushing the Mustang formula as far as Shelby believes it should go.
At the heart of the Super Snake is Ford’s familiar 5.0 liter V8 engine. In standard form, output stays identical to a stock Mustang GT at 480 horsepower. That might sound underwhelming at first, but the real story begins with Shelby’s optional supercharger system. With that setup installed, power climbs to over 830 horsepower, instantly transforming the Super Snake into one of the most powerful street focused Mustangs ever offered by Shelby.
Power is only useful if the car can handle it, and Shelby clearly understood that. The Super Snake receives an upgraded cooling system to manage heat under hard driving. A Borla exhaust adds both performance and a sharper, more aggressive sound. Stronger performance half shafts are fitted to handle the extra torque, while Shelby’s own suspension tuning sharpens handling without making the car unbearable on the street. Braking is handled by upgraded Shelby brakes designed to match the car’s performance potential.
Transmission choice is left to the driver, which is a big deal in today’s market. Buyers can choose between a six speed manual gearbox or a ten speed automatic. Both are available in coupe and convertible form. Manual cars get a short throw shifter, giving each gear change a more mechanical and engaging feel. Shelby also installs hardened and extended wheel studs along with 20 inch forged magnesium wheels, keeping weight down while improving durability.
Visually, the Super Snake separates itself from every factory Mustang on the road. Up front, a vented aluminum hood with hood pins signals serious intent. Carbon fiber extractors help with airflow, while a carbon fiber widebody kit dramatically changes the stance. The kit includes the front fenders, front bumper, and front fascia, giving the car a wider and more aggressive look that is impossible to miss.
Around back, Shelby continues the carbon fiber theme with a new rear diffuser and a rear ducktail spoiler. Fastback models take things even further with a carbon fiber era wing, adding both downforce and visual drama. Super Snake stripes and badges are available for buyers who want the full Shelby identity on display. Shelby will even tint the windows, depending on local regulations, to complete the look.
Inside, the changes are more subtle but still meaningful. Shelby embroidered floor mats and door sill plates remind you that this is not a standard Mustang. The seats feature embroidered Shelby branding, and a serialized dash plaque highlights the car’s limited production status. Manual transmission cars receive a Shelby branded shifter ball, adding a small but satisfying detail for drivers who prefer to row their own gears.
Pricing places the Super Snake firmly in the high end performance category. The 2026 Super Snake starts at $175,885. That price includes a Mustang GT Premium Fastback equipped with the Performance Pack, active exhaust, MagneRide suspension, red brake calipers, and the Bang and Olufsen sound system. Shelby backs the car with a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty, in addition to the Ford powertrain warranty.
For context, a standard Mustang GT with 480 horsepower starts at $48,555 including destination. The Mustang Dark Horse begins at $66,075, while the Mustang GTD sits far above at over $300,000. The Super Snake lands squarely in the middle, offering extreme performance without crossing into unobtainable territory.
Production is already underway, and Shelby plans to build only 300 Super Snakes for the United States. That limited number, combined with the power and visual presence, makes this car feel special before it even hits the road.
