Subaru Getaway 2027 Is Faster Than You Think 420 HP Surprise

Subaru is stepping deeper into the electric space with a new model that feels like a big move for the brand. The all-new Subaru Getaway is a three-row electric sport utility vehicle designed for families who still want that classic Subaru capability. It is expected to arrive toward the end of 2026, and from what we know so far, it looks like Subaru is aiming right at the heart of the growing electric family vehicle market.

Right from the start, the Getaway brings serious performance. Every version comes equipped with dual electric motors, one powering the front axle and the other at the rear. Together, they deliver 420 horsepower, giving this large vehicle a surprisingly quick personality. Subaru says it can reach 60 miles per hour in under 5.0 seconds, which is impressive for something that can carry up to 7 passengers. It also keeps its practical side with a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds and 8.3 inches of ground clearance, making it more than capable for light off-road adventures or weekend getaways.

Range and charging are just as important, and Subaru seems to have focused on both. The long-range version will be the first to hit the market, powered by a 95.8 kilowatt hour battery. It supports charging speeds up to 150 kilowatts, allowing the battery to go from 10 percent to 80 percent in about 30 minutes. Another big advantage is the inclusion of the North American Charging Standard, meaning owners will have access to Tesla Superchargers across the country.

A second version will follow in the first half of 2027, offering a smaller 77.0 kilowatt hour battery. Interestingly, the Getaway shares its platform and battery options with the Toyota Highlander EV, and the two vehicles look very similar at a glance. That is not surprising since Subaru and Toyota have been working together closely on electric vehicle development. Still, Subaru manages to give its model a bit more personality and performance.

Visually, the Getaway keeps things familiar while adding a few standout touches. The illuminated Subaru logo at the front immediately sets it apart, paired with sharp signature headlights. Around the back, there is another illuminated badge placed between the taillights, giving it a clean and modern look. Roof rails come standard, and buyers can choose between 19 inch or 20 inch wheels depending on the trim level.

Inside, the story is a mix of familiarity and technology. The layout closely mirrors its Toyota sibling, but it still delivers a comfortable and tech-focused experience. A 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster sits behind the steering wheel, while a large 14.0 inch infotainment display takes center stage. Wireless charging, wireless Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay are all included, making it easy to stay connected on the go.

Comfort is clearly a priority here. Heated seats come standard, with available heating for the second and third rows. Higher trims add ventilated seats for both the front and second rows, along with a heated steering wheel. The Getaway offers seating for up to 7 people, along with three-zone climate control, dedicated air vents for the third row, and USB-C ports in every row, which is something families will appreciate on longer drives.

Pricing has not been announced yet, but expectations place the starting point somewhere in the mid to upper 40,000 dollar range. That would position the Getaway slightly above Subaru’s other electric offerings, giving buyers a more premium option without stepping too far into luxury territory.
