Shelby Mustangs Autocross At ShelbyFest driven by Shelby American President Gary Patterson.

The Yellow car is a Shelby Terlingua. The limited edition supercharged ‘Stang comes with a plaque honoring Carroll Shelby, Bill Neale and Jerry Titus, the original Terlingua racing crew.

Shelby American brought the name back once before in 2006, but only slapped it on V6 car. Since then, fans have been clamoring for a true V8-powered Terlingua track car. A total of 75 will be built, 50 for the U.S. and 25 for international markets.

The name Terlingua translates to tres linguas or “three languages,” for the three American Indian tribes that resided in the region in Texas. Shelby, Dave Witts, Tom Tierney, David E. Davis Jr. and Neale would vacation yearly in the city and its surrounding areas, eventually buying a 200,000-acre ranch close by. It was Neale who came up with the black-and-yellow rabbit logo and Shelby who decided to put it on its winning cars in the ’60s. With that, the Terlingua Racing Team was born. The group also spawned a chili cook off, which itself separated into three events spanning from Texas to California.
