New Tank 300 L Gets 553 Upgrades and a Powerful New Hybrid

The Tank 300 has already built a strong reputation among off road enthusiasts, but Great Wall Motors believes there is still room for improvement. That is why the company has introduced the refreshed Tank 300 L, a model that brings hundreds of upgrades, a longer wheelbase, more advanced technology, and an entirely new hybrid powertrain option. Pre sales officially opened in China on July 6, with the official launch scheduled for July 19.

Customers can choose between two electrified versions. The Hi4 T model starts at 259,800 yuan, or about 38,200 United States dollars, while the new Hi4 Z version is priced at 269,800 yuan, or approximately 39,700 United States dollars. The arrival of the Hi4 Z system also marks an important milestone, as this is the first Tank model to feature the new powertrain.

According to Great Wall Motors, the Tank 300 L benefits from 553 optimization upgrades. More than half of the vehicle’s components have been redesigned or significantly improved, giving buyers a much more refined package while maintaining the rugged personality that made the original model popular.

One of the biggest changes is the longer 3,010 millimeter wheelbase. The larger platform also changes the vehicle’s proportions, resulting in an overall length of 4,886 millimeters, a width of 1,984 millimeters, and a height of 1,927 millimeters. Engineers shortened the front overhang while extending the distance between the front axle and passenger compartment, helping improve both cabin space and overall balance.

The updated front end receives a redesigned black grille featuring prominent TANK lettering. The familiar round headlights remain, but now include integrated turn signals for a cleaner appearance. Buyers who enjoy personalizing their vehicles will appreciate the 40 factory expansion interfaces that support accessories including roof racks, auxiliary lighting, recovery winches, and other adventure equipment.

The Tank 300 L continues to deliver impressive off road capability. It offers a 38 degree approach angle, a 33 degree departure angle, a 19 degree break over angle, 235 millimeters of ground clearance, and the ability to drive through water up to 800 millimeters deep.

Inside, the cabin has been modernized with a 12.3 inch digital instrument display and a large 15.6 inch floating touchscreen featuring 2.5K resolution. The system runs Great Wall Motors’ latest Coffee Operating System 3 artificial intelligence platform, complete with Coffee GPT voice assistance and expanded connectivity features.

Drivers who spend time exploring remote areas will appreciate the specialized equipment built into the vehicle. The system includes more than 4,000 off road route guides, an integrated radio, satellite communication capability, and even an onboard oxygen concentrator designed for high altitude adventures.

Comfort has also received considerable attention. The driver enjoys a 12 way power adjustable seat, while the front passenger receives 10 way electric adjustment. Both front seats include heating, ventilation, memory settings, and an 8 point massage function. Rear passengers also benefit from reclining seatbacks that adjust between 25 and 33.7 degrees, making longer journeys much more comfortable.

Technology plays a much larger role in the new Tank 300 L. The vehicle uses 27 sensors, including a LiDAR unit, to support advanced driver assistance features such as full scenario Navigate on Autopilot. Owners also receive Sentry Mode for additional security, while an optional Coffee Night Vision 2.0 system improves visibility in dark driving conditions.

Performance depends on which hybrid system buyers choose. The Hi4 T combines a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine producing 180 kilowatts and 241 horsepower with a 130 kilowatt front electric motor. Power comes from a 37.1 kilowatt hour battery pack, delivering up to 105 kilometers of electric driving range and a combined driving range of 913 kilometers. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 6.1 seconds and uses an electronically controlled part time four wheel drive system.

Buyers looking for maximum performance can step up to the new Hi4 Z version. This model pairs the same 2.0 liter turbocharged engine with a 180 kilowatt front electric motor and a powerful 200 kilowatt rear electric motor. Energy is supplied by a much larger 59.6 kilowatt hour battery, allowing up to 200 kilometers of electric driving while extending the combined driving range to 1,122 kilometers. Even more impressive is its acceleration, reaching 100 kilometers per hour from a standstill in just 4.3 seconds while using a fully electric four wheel drive system.

With a longer wheelbase, substantial technology improvements, premium interior upgrades, stronger hybrid performance, and even greater off road capability, the refreshed Tank 300 L represents the most advanced version of Great Wall Motors’ popular sport utility vehicle to date.
