New Mitsubishi Triton Savana Sertões

Mitsubishi has turned the Triton into an even more adventure-ready pickup with the new Triton Savana Sertões, a special edition created specifically for Brazil. Inspired by the demanding Rally dos Sertões, this version looks ready to leave the pavement almost immediately, and some of its equipment is unusual enough to get plenty of attention.

The most noticeable addition is sitting on top of the truck. Mitsubishi installs a steel roof rack capable of carrying up to 50 kilograms, or 110 pounds, and it comes equipped with recovery boards and an actual shovel. Rather than asking owners to build their own recovery kit after buying the truck, Mitsubishi has included some of the essentials directly from the dealer.

The off-road upgrades continue underneath. Front and rear skid plates help protect vulnerable components, while reinforced side steps can also function as rock sliders. These parts receive a durable X-Liner protective coating designed to resist scratches during rough trail use.

A factory snorkel increases the Triton’s water wading capability to 800 millimeters, or about 31.5 inches. Mitsubishi also fits 18-inch alloy wheels with Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac RT all-terrain tires, giving the truck a much more purposeful appearance.

Power remains unchanged. Under the hood is a 2.4-liter twin-turbocharged diesel engine producing 202 horsepower and 470 Newton-meters, or approximately 347 pound-feet, of torque. It works with a 6-speed automatic transmission and Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II four-wheel-drive system, which provides low range, center and rear differential locks, multiple drive modes, and Active Yaw Control.

Inside, orange stitching and a special dashboard badge distinguish the Savana Sertões from a regular Triton. Leather upholstery, a 9-inch infotainment display, a 360-degree camera, 7 airbags, rubber floor mats, and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems are also included.

Mitsubishi is offering the Triton Savana Sertões in Brazil for a promotional launch price of R$339,990, approximately $66,000. Production will be limited, although Mitsubishi has not announced exactly how many examples will be built. For buyers who actually intend to get their truck dirty, the factory-installed shovel might be one accessory they are surprisingly happy to have.
