New Mercedes AMG Electric GT Interior Shows the Future of Performance
Mercedes AMG is moving deeper into the electric era, and the upcoming second generation GT 4 Door Coupe gives us a closer look at how the brand plans to combine performance with advanced electric technology. The car follows the bold GT XX concept revealed last year, which hinted at what a true AMG developed electric vehicle could become. While AMG has worked on electric vehicles before, including the SLS AMG Electric Drive and several performance versions of Mercedes electric models, this new project represents a vehicle designed as an electric performance machine from the very beginning.
Inside the new GT 4 Door Coupe, the cabin shows a dramatic shift from the traditional layout found in the previous gasoline powered model. The interior now focuses heavily on digital displays, creating a modern cockpit filled with screens. The dashboard features a triple screen arrangement placed behind a glass panel. A 10.2 inch digital instrument cluster sits in front of the driver, while two 14 inch displays handle infotainment and passenger entertainment.
The center screen is slightly angled toward the driver, helping create a more driver focused feel, while the passenger display allows the person sitting up front to enjoy media and other functions during the drive. Mercedes AMG has also reduced the number of physical buttons throughout the cabin. Climate settings are now integrated directly into the main touchscreen interface.
Even with the digital focus, the company kept a few physical controls for performance adjustments. Three rotary knobs located on the center console allow drivers to fine tune motor response, traction control across 9 stages, and cornering characteristics. These controls are also angled toward the driver, reinforcing the cockpit inspired design.
Passengers in the rear also benefit from technology. A small display at the back of the center console allows rear occupants to control climate settings. The cabin can be configured with either 4 seats or a more practical 5 seat layout, and the rear seats fold down to increase cargo space.
Above, a large glass roof stretches toward the rear of the car. The panel features illuminated AMG graphics inspired by the Affalterbach logo and includes adjustable dimming sections that allow occupants to control how much light enters the cabin.
Although the final exterior has not yet been shown, the GT XX concept preview suggested extreme performance. The concept used a triple motor system producing 1,341 horsepower and a top speed above 224 miles per hour. It also demonstrated extremely fast charging, capable of adding 249 miles of range in just 5 minutes.
Mercedes AMG is also preparing a sport utility vehicle that will use the same electric performance platform, expanding the technology to drivers who prefer a higher riding vehicle. The electric GT 4 Door Coupe is expected to arrive before the end of 2026.
