New Mazda CX-3 Is Coming and It Could Look Like This
Mazda is preparing to bring the CX-3 back for a new generation, and this time the small crossover could look very different from the model drivers remember. While Mazda has confirmed that a successor is coming, its final design remains under wraps, leaving plenty of room to imagine how the production model could take shape.
One possible direction comes from Mazda’s recent Vision-X Compact concept. Its slim lighting, clean surfaces, and modern interpretation of Mazda’s design language could provide clues about the next CX-3. The front could adopt narrow daytime running lights and a cleaner grille treatment, while the rear is expected to have a more substantial crossover shape with additional cargo space and a taller profile.
Another important detail is that Mazda is expected to develop the new CX-3 itself. Unlike the Mazda 6e and CX-6e, which were created through cooperation with Chinese automaker Changan, the upcoming CX-3 is expected to be a Mazda developed vehicle.
Powertrain choices could also keep the CX-3 interesting for traditional buyers. Gasoline engines are expected alongside mild hybrid and plug in hybrid options. Even more interesting, the gasoline model is expected to retain a 6 speed manual transmission, something that has become increasingly rare among modern crossovers. Front wheel drive is currently expected across the lineup.
The new Mazda CX-3 is expected to make its debut next year, with production also scheduled to begin around that time. If Mazda combines its latest styling direction with efficient hybrid technology and the option of a manual transmission, the next CX-3 could become one of the more interesting small crossovers in its class.
