New Ford Ranger Super Duty Changes Everything
For years, the Ford Ranger has been one of the most trusted pickup trucks in Europe, earning a reputation for balancing everyday comfort with serious capability. Now Ford is pushing that formula even further with the new Ranger Super Duty, a truck created for customers who regularly face the toughest jobs and most demanding environments.
While the Ranger has always been known as a capable workhorse, some industries require much more than what a conventional pickup can deliver. Mining operations, forestry crews, emergency response teams, utility companies, and defense organizations often push their vehicles to the limit every day. These customers need greater towing capacity, larger payload ratings, and improved durability without having to spend thousands on aftermarket upgrades.
That challenge inspired Ford engineers to create the Ranger Super Duty. Rather than modifying a standard truck, the company developed a factory built solution designed specifically for heavy duty work. The result is a Ranger capable of carrying and towing substantially more than the standard model while maintaining the comfort and technology owners expect.
From the outside, the truck still looks familiar, but beneath the bodywork significant changes have transformed its capabilities. Engineers strengthened the chassis frame, reinforced suspension components, upgraded driveline hardware, and installed the strongest rear axle ever fitted to a Ranger. The wheel hubs now feature an 8 stud design with larger fasteners to handle increased loads and demanding operating conditions.
Power comes from a 3.0 liter V6 turbo diesel engine paired with a 10 speed automatic transmission. Both have been recalibrated to better manage heavy loads and extended off road use. Ford also increased cooling performance by 25 percent and fitted a massive 130 liter fuel tank to help operators stay productive for longer periods in remote areas.
Despite the extra strength, Ford was determined not to compromise the Ranger’s off road credentials. The Ranger Super Duty offers nearly 300 millimeters of ground clearance and an impressive 850 millimeter water wading capability. Additional underbody protection helps shield critical components from rocks, debris, and harsh terrain.
The intelligent all wheel drive system continuously adjusts power delivery based on conditions, helping maintain traction when the truck is heavily loaded. Front and rear electronically locking differentials, combined with a 2 speed transfer case, provide additional confidence when tackling mud, sand, steep climbs, and rough trails.
Developing a vehicle this capable required extensive testing. Engineers subjected the truck to brutal durability programs that went far beyond traditional standards. One unique test repeatedly packed the wheel areas with up to 600 kilograms of mud to ensure cooling systems, driveline components, and mechanical systems continued functioning under extreme conditions.
The testing program also included round the clock durability evaluations on rough terrain. In some situations, the impacts and vibrations were so severe that robotic systems were used to perform portions of the testing. Australia became one of the primary development locations because of its challenging landscapes, long distances, and demanding real world pickup truck applications.
Technology also plays a major role in the Ranger Super Duty experience. New Onboard Scales help drivers understand payload weight, while Smart Hitch assists with proper trailer loading. Pro Trailer Backup Assist simplifies reversing with a trailer, making difficult maneuvers easier and less stressful.
Ford also designed the truck with vehicle converters in mind. Many commercial operators install specialized equipment such as fire fighting systems, utility bodies, or elevated work platforms. To simplify these modifications, the Ranger Super Duty includes integrated auxiliary switches, a dedicated device mounting area, and packaging solutions that make adding equipment easier while preserving factory functionality.
The Ranger Super Duty is more than just a stronger Ranger. It represents Ford’s answer to customers who need extreme capability straight from the factory. With increased payload, enhanced towing performance, advanced technology, and serious off road ability, it is built for the toughest jobs while remaining practical enough for everyday use.
