New BRABUS 900 Rocket Cabrio Is Absolutely Wild

New BRABUS 900 Rocket Cabrio Is Absolutely Wild

The BRABUS 900 ROCKET EDITION CABRIO takes one of the most recognizable luxury sport utility vehicles in the world and gives it a transformation few would expect. Based on the Mercedes-AMG G 63, this open-top supercar combines serious performance with an extensively engineered convertible body. Only 10 examples will be produced worldwide, making it one of the most exclusive BRABUS creations yet.

Turning the G 63 into a cabriolet required far more than simply removing the roof. BRABUS developed a 2-piece electrically operated soft-top system using more than 500 newly designed components. Structural changes were engineered to maintain rigidity comparable to the fixed-roof model, while the roof itself can open or close in just 20 seconds. It even includes a heated safety-glass rear window and a special carbon-fiber roof bow designed to help maintain its shape at higher speeds.

Under the hood is where things get even more serious. BRABUS increases the twin-turbocharged V8 engine from 4.0 liters to approximately 4.5 liters, producing 900 horsepower and 1,250 Newton-meters of torque. Torque is electronically limited to 1,050 Newton-meters inside the vehicle. The massive G-Class can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in only 3.7 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 240 kilometers per hour, or 149 miles per hour.

BRABUS also gives the vehicle the full ROCKET EDITION appearance. The widened body is covered with exposed carbon-fiber details and sits on massive 24-inch forged BRABUS Monoblock II wheels. Carbon aeroblades help control airflow around the wheels, while the BRABUS RideControl aluminum coilover suspension allows the vehicle to be lowered by as much as 45 millimeters.

Inside, black leather and Alcantara dominate the cabin, joined by bright red stitching, piping and numerous ROCKET RED details. Carbon-fiber trim continues throughout the interior, and the paddle shifters even incorporate light-emitting diode rev indicators that change color as engine speed rises. Special hinges allow the rear doors to open to 90 degrees for easier access.

Exclusivity comes with a serious price. The vehicle presented by BRABUS is listed at 890,740 euros before German value-added tax. With production limited to just 10 vehicles, 900 horsepower, an electrically operated convertible roof and unmistakable G-Class proportions, the BRABUS 900 ROCKET EDITION CABRIO is about as far removed from a normal G 63 as it gets.
